You should upgrade and replace MMplayer with TCPMP. It works a lot better and is free.

It works better, looks better and sounds better. It can handle much larger files and much higher bitrates than mmplayer. mmplayer isn't bad, but TCPMP has it beat.

Never used that TCPMP player, but I'm reading over at Treocentral it's much better than mmplayer. I was going to try Kinoma out first, but if TCPIMPIN does the trick, I'll use that instead.
I also use Lightwav, Xiino, Webviewer, Zlauncher (love it), backupbuddy (def. a must), a few others.

Internet browsers. On the 600, it was a must have, but Blazer is a lot better on the 650, so it's not needed as much.

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

I use AIM for AOL, treo messenger for Yahoo and C****e. There is a program called Agile Messenger that claims to do all 3 plus IRC but I couldn't get it to work for any except Yahoo.

All 4 programs are free and available for download at:

I been trying out Chatter mail using IMAP and the "push" I'm lovin it. A lot more than versamail, which wants to half work when it wants to. I think I will have to buy Chatter. Only downside is it drains the battery quicker.

I posted a lot about TCPMP on treocentral when this alpha was first released. I can't say enough good things about this open source FREE application.

The video quality is good and if anyone needs help (the steps involved) with the procedure of backing up the DVD's you own with a Mac running OS 10.3 or better I will try my best to help by going over options for the conversion.

This application also lets you smoothly (without crashing) scan forward (fast forward while watching vid) and also has an Equalizer, preamp, amplitude/volume control for the audio. and brightness controls for the video. This application is stable as long as you allow enough free memory (internally) when running the application from a card.

I have a 2GB SD card (i waited 5 months for it and am glad I reordered it from a different vendor who had it in stock last month) and have several concerts that I own on DVD hanging on the SD card at all times including miles davis and standing in the shadows of motown. I also carry about a hundred songs and have been changing the songs once a week or so.

I also suggest TREO alarm, 3D hockey if you like games, bejeweled2, bugMe - which is free and is like the old palm notpad where you can write notes without typing in case you want to scribble down a number. I am used to the keyboard so this is not as necessary as i thought it would be but it's cool.

Also:
EZFTP, filez, FlightStatus, Handy Shopper,Guitar tuner!, metronome, KeyCaps, KeyGTime, Joke,DirAssist which are ALL FREE.

Also free: MiniBar, (mix drinks), Metro-listing of all subways, PalmPuke- this one is very important and has saved my butt. I choose the "boat" sound and if the SD card falls out partially or all the way, this loud boat foghorn with reverb and everything warns the user that they are about to lose their $170 SD card. I like this. The puke sounds are good too but I don't use them in case i'm with people sans sense of humor.

SoundREc, YAHM hack, Khroma (free color theme application- nice) and yesterday- also all free.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Mike

an inexpensive option is a holster if you want to wear your phone ..

these companies make swivel (I prefer the swivel) holsdters and staionary ones as well.

1. Pro Clip
2. Seidio (two types , one holster swivel and one clip holster but the clip model can casue the SD card to come out!)

Just another option for those seeking a case.

I do NOT reccommend the Pa1mOne cleather case that you wear on your belt... it was terrible and difficult to snap and manipulate.

There are all sorts of cases...depending on your style/preference. They going here: http://store.treonauts.com/content/accessories/4.htm

I personally went with this one, it is a pouch case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5769913314
I am happy. The most important thing for me was not having a protruding built in belt clip. This is perfect.

Nice site, thanks.

I like the case that you bought and how it carries the treo 650 closer to one's body than other cases and clips.

The only thing that stops me from purchasing this case is the fact that I have 2GB worth of songs on my 2GB Ultra II SD card on my T650 and I want to be able to plug in the stereo headphones while carrying the device on my belt.

One good thing about the Seidio is that the T650's face faces the velvet material on the inside of the clip. The headphone female connector is on on the bottom so one can plug in and run pTunes. This has replaced my iPod.

There are, however disadvantages of the Seido. Want to know? Ask me.

Otherwise this is one of the nicer cases I have seen.

Great post.

Thanks

Mike

I would buy this case

Yes the only disadvantage of the case i bought is the fact that there are no holes for the headphone jack. Call me stupid but i just turn the phone upside down in the case when i listen to music so that the jack is on top. The case does not close all the way when i do this....

First i want to say this sight is awesome!!! it has made me switch from cingular and made me confident in buying a treo 650. the 600 sucked for cingular and i couldnt stand it. I was hoping i could get anwsers to a few questions...

treo 650 questions...

1. can i use aim??
if i can, can i still recieve phone calls
2. when im online can i recieve calls??
if not... that sucks :irked:
3. the plan i got is for 2 lines....... fair and flexible 2500 mins.....free vision.... and mobile to mobile..... I've had my sisters line under my name for 10 months now and added the second line from my cingular account. can i get more features for free or is this pretty much it.

Good morning Mush,

1. Yes you can use AIM (I do) no I do not believe you can receive calls while texting.
2. No when online you cannot receive calls, they will go directly into Voice mail.
3. You would have to check with Cingular to see if they will sweeten the pot.

Think of using your Web or email as a phone line, when you are on it calls will go into voicemail.

P.S. IMHO, the Treo 650 is the best Smartphone on the market right now for what it does and the picture quality is so much nicer on the digital camera compared to the 600.

What ever you go with, good luck.

1. I never really thought about texting while on the phone but yes. I tested it out. I made a call, kept it live and then went to the text screen and send/recd text. You can also send/rcv text while listing to streaming audio :)
2. You can recieve calls if the arrows next to the signal strength readout are grey and not green. Grey means vision is connected but not sending data, green is actively sending/receiving data. (Hope some day CDMA will allow for simlutaneous like GSM does)

is this possible with my treo 650............assigning ringtones and one touch dialing??
thanks again!

phillipd76
06-21-2005, 09:30 AM
To assign ringtones you must make that person's *number* a favorite.
If you go into the phone app and hit the down key on the 5way. you will see a bunch of favourites. There are as many as five pages. If you click on an empty one you can choose what kind of favourite it is to be. Then select the person (number) and the ringtone. If that person has a picture in their contact that will also display when they call from that number.

I dont know about the one touch dialing, I have never used or looked for anything like that.
