View Full Version : Is Sanyo planning another new release?

Anyone know if Sanyo is planning another new phone this year, as more of a direct upgrade from the 8200? It seems as if Sanyo usually comes out with a new phone in April or May. I could be wrong, but I thought that the 8100 came out in April or May 2003, and the 8200 in April or May 2004.
I'm eligible for the $150 upgrade rebate, and like the 8200, but don't want to get that only for them to come out with a new one a month or two later. I know the 5600 is now out (is that their one new release for Spring), but I'm hoping for something more in size and price range of the 8100 and 8200.
Thanks!

There is talk about a Sanyo 8300. Not much information available and all just seems speculation until a reliable sourse says otherwise but here is what I know so far.
MM-8300.
MM-Capable
VGA Quality Camera
Camcorder (not 100% sure if this will happen but it is likely)
Available in different colors
ReadyLink
Vision
SMS
VGA Screen
MP4/AAC Ringtone Capable (not 100% sure but seems likely since so far all MM phones are MP4/AAC Ringtone Capable.
Hope this helps. Like I said this isn't official information but simply speculation that has been tossed around. The information seems likely possible and the release would make sense that would happen this year being that the 8200 is due to be updated soon. I would say late summer or early fall.

Isn't that what the 8200 was? A non-ruberized 7300 with a camera? The 7000 series and 8000 series always seem very close, the 7000 series with rubber and ment to compete with nextel (until now) and the 8000 series for the more traditional consumer.
the 7400 has style and class, not your blue collar rubbered up thingy
changing the faceplate makes the phone look diffeent everytime

Pretty much except the 7400 has a larger screen with a better resolution. The camera quality maybe the same or slightly poorer. I see the LCD and the camera being the major differences which will affect the pirce point resulting in a lower price. 8000 series is a middle-range phone at an affordable price so the 8300 will be the same. Expect it to be retailed at about $279.99 or between $99.99 - $129.99 with 2-year agreement and new activation. I speculate a pink or purple type color choice to be available in addition to the silver and blue. Fourth color choice possible.

I was in the Sprint store yesterday my friend was due for her upgrade she dropped her LG4NE1 phone and she got an 8200 for 60 bucks after all her mail ins come back. But the guy showed me an accessory box that said for phone models PM8200 and MM8300 so it's a coming. My rebate isn't up till November I can't wait I want the purple one. He said it should be out by then. Rose

THey need to have another High-end phone come out. The 8200 is alright but I prefer phones that have big screens. I kinda dislike the small phones.

The 8300 sounds cool..... like another blockbuster for Sprint.
8100 brought PictureMail to the masses.
8200 brought RL to the masses.
8300 will bring.... MM?
It does basically sound like a non-rugged, smaller screened 7400, but that's a good thing cuz it'll bring the price down and put a great phone in the hands of more people. :waycool:

Totally agree with you. The 8000 Sanyo Model Series is the highest selling for Sprint PCS. The 8100 was the first phone with an integrated camera in the US and was an amazing buy at only $99.99! This line of phones is designed to bring the most features offered at the most affordable price. In turn getting more revenue per customer. If they can get all their services in a small affordable package, in the end they will make more money because it gives these users the ability to use these features and in turn spend more on their wireless bill. 8200 added ReadyLink, LED Flash (not that this costs anything) and SMS. Now the 8300 will add Video Mail and MultiMedia. It's a great strategy on Sprint side and better for the consumer in a sense because although we may not all want or use these features, we still get the best of everything in a small, affordable, high-quality phone. If the 8300 doesn't, I can see the 8400 (when its time for it) to include EV-DO and perhaps some other service like MMS or something.

Yup.....it sure was. 8100 came afterwards.....when flipped open, they look very similar......except for the 8100 is smaller, and the directional button is a little different. 8100 added the Picture Mail w/voice message......I can still remember those commercials.
I don't think Ready Link took off because of the 8200...or took off at all for that matter.

Well I think the 5000 series are just as good sellers as the 8000 series. Well except for maybe the 5600 (Once the price is dropped and more people learn about it....it'll start selling even more). There are alot of people with the 5500. So you cant give all the credit to the 8000 series.

8000 series sold a lot more than the 5000 series simply because it was a lot less expensive.

true, the 5300 came first, but the first AFFORDABLE camera phone was definitely the 8100. wasn't it the first camera phone for under $100? i thought it debuted at $99 after contract. maybe i'm mistaken...

What exactly is considered a "basic" MM phone? An MM phone without a card slot and a 1.3 MP camera? I guess that means the MM7400 is considered a "basic" MM phone?

There better be something real good and unexpected about the 8300, because that a880 is looking like the toughest competitor it's ever had.
I already know that the 8300's color variations will help.

A880 and 8300 will not have card slots, "basic" MM phones. Think 7400.

8300 will likely have a speakerphone/RL to trump over the A880, which will offer an internal antenna and STT. No word on CMOS or CCD camera's.

Why is everyone so excited about the 8300? Ohh it has VM and MM. Not impressed .....7400 and 5600 already have these features and more. Plus instead of adding features to the 8200 why didn't they fix the problems with it? Hinge breaking, keypad going out, standardized charger not working...I could go on and on... I mean on and on.
Suck it up and buy a real phone that won't crap out on you or pay the price.

I have never had anyone of those problems with my MM5600, MM7400, SCP7300, 5400, 5300, 5150, and 5100. In my crowd of SPCS people, the following phones are being used.
4 SCP 5500
3 MM7400
1 SCP7300
3 Samsung somethings
1 Nokia something
My wifes old SCP 5400 had a broken hinge after hit a sidewalk. Kepads going out is a 1st for me. Not all phones are perfect, but the Sanyo line, is a good line. :music:

OK well I know that the 8300 is coming soon and there are already computer animated images of what the phone is going to look like but for some reason the pictures arent allowed to be posted anywhere on this site. I also have an actual picture of the 8300 confirming the computer animated ones as valid. I would post the pictures but fear that they will get removed again and that I may be banned and I also hear links to sites with the pictures were being removed as well so if anyone wants the picture PM me. I also hear that they are coming really soon hence the price drop on the 8200 from $99.99 to $49.99 and the BOGO FREE promotion. Within the next couple of months or sooner.

For most of the 8200's life it costed $279.99 like the 7300 and the 5400. The price drop was initiated within the last 30 days to 229.99.
You're right, the 8000 series is an economical alternative to the 5000 series.

Yeah I saw accessories already that say MM8300 on them.. Do we know for sure what colors it will come in? I'll probably get one when my 18 months is up. I've been having problems with my 8200 I set it to Sprint only and it goesto Automatic on it's own and I see where it says digital roaming on there sometimes. I never take it off the Sprint setting and 4 or 5 times it's changed on it's own. Mine redials sometimes and then I am connected but the phone never rang but I see the timer going and noone is there it's weird..
One Sprint store said oh you just needed this update then it still did it. The other store said they would order me another phone and that it would be refurbished but I was still under warranty and Sprint said they would send me a brand new phone. Sprint said the store should of giving me a brand new phone since I wasunder warranty. But the Sprint rep on the phone said either way I went any new phone put on my account resets my 18 months so I said forget it. I'll wait it out till November. But I read how great the 7400 is I kind of want it. One of my coworkers has it.. But I still can't wait to hold an 8300 and see it. Rose
