Ok, so now the Sanyo MM-5600 not only has multiple threads but one of it's subthreads has multiple threads. Ok I'm guilty but since the creaky hinge thread is probably ignored by most with probably a "this again!" thought, I figured I'd put the heart of the matter right in the subject. It was once asked of someone complaining of the hinge that they record it. The complaining user said a recording won't do it justice. With careful recording, I say it will do it justice. So, admittedely, I did some tweaking. But nothing to change the sound of the creak. I reduced any background noise that comes from a microphone and I jacked the volume up. But, people who have heard this creaking up against their ear for sure will be like "Yeah - that's my phone, damn it." So, needless to say, the WD40 I posted that I tried on my friend's phone has worn off. Thank goodness my phone does not do this as I believe it can't get worse. Damn you, Sanyo. This is a $450 phone. Don't do this again. lol I don't hate the phone, I still love it. But here's hoping this is never an issue with a future Sanyo phone.

It actually sounds like that?! Were you opening it really slowly? That's terrible!

lol Sadly no and I shoulda specified more clearly. It actually opens and closes quite silentely. I wasn't opening it at all. It was fully opened and all I was doing was ever so lightely pressing and releasing on the ear peace any person would do through the action of normal phone conversation from twitching, moving your head, etc. Now, the hinge is strong don't get me wrong but it's like "bend your finger backwards" strong. You're pretty sure you won't break it yet no matter how far you bend it, you can always push it further but the fact that you feel pain will stop you. Yet there's play in your finger that would allow it just as there's that kinda tight play in the hinge but it's just loose enough that it will creak like this if you twitch.

So, I WD40ed my friend's phone once more to stop the hinge creak and it's silent again. Since my phone doesn't do this, I recommended to her to run it back to the store for a replacement unit if the creak comes back but I told her to put it off to the very end so that she can increase her chances of not getting one from the same batch. They are selling pretty well at the Sprint stores around here so chances of that are good.

And to the 5600 lovers out there who feels I'm putting the phone down, I'm not. I do love my phone and even should the hinge start to creak, I still love it and at least know how to stop it. But, as such, I still think without flaming the phone, it should be ok for me to be happy with the phone and at the same say, "Damn you, Sanyo. There's no excuse for this. You have fans now, act like it. :)" Now, I might jump ship but it won't be because of a hinge creak. If all other features of the LG MM-535 are equal alongside it's 20 megs of internal ram, that could make me jump ship. But the speakerphone must sound amazing and I can't give up the training-free voice recognitian which is better than the trained voice recognitian of my last phone. I have seen Sanyo beat LG phone after phone but I'm seeing LG starting to play the game so, we'll see. As of today, I still love the MM-5600 though.

Dont you just love that sound. :hee:

Thats what mine sounds like. It's weird though, on mine one day it will be really bad and loud and on another day it's almost all gone. It's like it comes and goes. I going to get some WD-40 this weekend and try it out.

I had a couple that did that and my most recent (current one) the wd-40 in the hinge worked perfectly. Stop complaining and buy some WD-40!

...just don't try and return it if you choose that route...

If return/exchange is an option, I'd strongly recommend doing that first.

How's WD40 gonna mess up the option to return the phone? It's not like anyone would go into the store and be like "I have a creaky hinge. I tried WD40 and it came back so I'd like to return it." lol You just don't tell them. It's not even gonna do any damage to the phone so what's the point of even bringing it up and getting them to even wonder if they shouldn't accept it back? It's a $500 phone and yes, this is a valid reason for exchange. Sanyo should have known better and if they don't, let them deal with a few thousand returns with "creaky hinge" written on the report. OR you can just keep your phone and NOT send Sanyo a money costing message that this is not cool. I'd chose the former. I said it before guys. We make the rules in the cell phone world. Not the companies. If your hinge creaks, you can deal with it and be ok with it just like Cingular users allow Cingular to charge them for buckets of text messages and be all submissive or you can say no way not for my $500 and exchange it. I chose the second option and think it's better for the consumers in the long run and hope enough people to make it count agree with me.

I agree with you...if enough people take the damned thing back, they will eventually get the message.

HOWEVER, doing anything to your phone or putting anything on your phone is similar to shooting yourself in the foot if there is any chance of taking it back... :eyeroll:

I emailed them saying I heard about a creaky hinge. They completely denied it saying all there phones go through some kind of tests. I forgot what they sanyo person said. Something like usage tests or reliablity tests....or some junk. But yea they DENIED it and said it wasnt true.

Since when does Sanyo quality control do a good job testing their phones?

Let's recap:

Sanyo 8200 - every problem under the sun (redialing, random shut off, dropped calls) - 7+ exchanges for my sister's.
Sanyo 5500 - redialing bug
Sanyo 4900 - horrendous voice quality
Sanyo 7400 - dropped calls for no reason

Simply put, if the 5600's worst problem is a squeaky hinge, consider yourself lucky.

I like my 8200. It just survived a 4 foot drop on hard concrete. just a couple dents.

However, I know exactly what that sounds like.......... gross. ;)

My uncle is addicted to Sanyos. 5300 > VM4500 > MM7400. :hee: Never had a problem out of any of them.

lol...this is funny. My 4 year old A400's hinge only started creaking after 2 years of heavy use and me stepping on it while open (don't ask)
