View Full Version : Considering Sanyo SCP-200...

Hey all, I have a quick question:

Currently I have two Nokia 3585i(s) on the plan and I'm looking to to get them replaced with the $150 rebate with a upgraded, yet still comparable phone. I'm looking for mainly voice-only phones, I don't have much need for any real extras on these 2 phones. Standard SMS is all I really require.

Looking on the SPCS website, I see two phones that fit what I'm looking for, the Sanyo SCP-200 and the Nokia 6016i. The LG 125 is another alternative I'm interested in. I'm more interested in the Sanyo as it looks more professional plus it has the bonus of a speakerphone. Now my real question is if anyone has used the Sanyo 200? I've searched around and haven't really seen much mention of this phone anywhere, outside of the fact that it's been released as a entry level clamshell.

If anyone could give me any reviews/opinions on the Sanyo or suggestions for the other phone models, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I played with the Sanyo 200 today at the SPCS store while I was waiting to be helped.

I thought the phone was very nice looking, even though I'm use to an outside Display.

That being said, it felt comfortable in my hand. Had a nice weight to it, not toyish like the Samsungs. (NO FLAMING!!!!)

Since you have the Nokia's right now, it will be an honest upgrade while still being pretty simple.

My $0.02 worth!

Based on your post, I think the Sanyo 200 would be a good phone for you. I have not had the chance to actually play with it, but if it is anything like my Sanyo 8200 it is a great phone. When I bought my Sanyo 8200 I never thought I would use the speakerphone, but I use it all the time now I have it. I would never buy a phone without a speaker phone.

I'd get a Motorola V60v, to be honest. It's a much higher quality phone than the Sanyo, and it's only what, $60.00 more? It has an outside display, which I'd find useful.

If you weren't aware already...

All 3 of the phones you mentioned have Speakerphones. :)

He didn't mention it as a requirement, but if that's the case, the Nokia. Otherwise, Moto.

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62786 theres a thread where basicly everyone here voices their opinion of the 200...personally i have played with it alot and i think its a fabulous phone! It fells a lot more sturdy then the LG, also it will be cheaper since you don't need vision, I have a sanyo and its great (5600), and you rarly hear negative remarks about sanyos...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I missed the speakerphone on the Nokia, so thanks for pointing that out to me as well.

Concerning the Moto V60v, I'm sure that's it's overall a better phone and the external screen is a sure plus but i really can't afford 2 $70 phones, especially when they're not for my own use.

Looking through the other thread also got me intersted in upcoming phones such as the Sanyo 2300, is there any other difference than added vision on that phone which is not on the 200? Thanks in advance.

Supposedly has an external screen, and might have RL capabilities, not to mention downloadable ringers, wallpapers, games, apps, assigning caller ID pictures and ringers, and everything else that goes hand-in-hand with Vision.

When I bought my Sanyo 8200 I never thought I would use the speakerphone, but I use it all the time now I have it. I would never buy a phone without a speaker phone.

I'm the same way. My a670 doesn't have one, so I find myself using my v551 much more frequently while driving.

I'd never go back, either.

Yeah, I didn't notice how useful it was until I got my 7400. Now I'd fiddle with my old A620 or my friend's phones and want to press the speaker button, only to find there isn't one. How saddening...

Anyways, I think the 200 is up your alley. Simple phone...I don't personally like the silver...thing...on the outside, but if you don't mind, go for it!

The LG VI-125 has a full duplex speaker phone. If I were you, I would take a good look at it. I have one now and it is a surprisingly solid and quality built phone. Its RF performance has been very good and the earpiece is the clearest I have ever had (better than the Toshiba 4050 and that's saying something!).

I like the 125's avatar functionality...kind of like the Samsung buddies in the phonebook menu

I totally agree. I never thought I would use a speaker phone very much for it to be practical. After I had an a680 at one time to replace an 8200 I realized how much I do use it. Dont think I would ever go with out one now.
As for the 200 I think its a good buy as long as an outside display isnt important to the ones using it. (I couldnt go without one of those either) Sanyo tends to make some relatively bug free phones.

125 > 200 if you ask me. Thumbnail phonebook? FULL DUPLEX? External LCD? VISION? Hands down the LG...

Any of you 125 owners wanna give a formal review?

True, true. It looks like it's an overall solid entry-level phone...consider that one too...

Play with the phones and see which one you like. With Sanyo you always know what you are getting, and the 200 feels very solid, and without Vision the menus are so simplified. Regarding the lack of an external LCD, how often do you look whos calling and not answer? You got to open it any way and after a week or so of using the phone you will forget what having the external was like. The LG325 has been very problem free, so it seems LG has been getting their act together too. From working at a Sprint Store though, wait for the 2nd run on any phone you buy, which is almost true for any electronic. Buy what works for you!

yeah, especially after the 5500/7400's redialing and signal fade issues.
