The speakerphone can be used with the phone closed, it is nice and clear and works great, I have not had anyone tell me I was getting cut off even with the speakerphone being half duplex. You can also answer the phone with the flip closed with the top right button, you can also call anyone or readylink anyone with the flip closed.

I am trying to read all I can on this phone as I want to upgrade fron a candybar phone and want to be sure I'll like the flip. I have not seen any discussions on converting from one to the other and what seems to be everyones choice.

Going from candybar to flip will be seemless. I went from the 4900 to the 8100. It was flawless. The speaker always works, whether the phone is open or closed. Someone would have to manually end the call before the speakerphone features stops working.

Should have added a transition sentence. The first 3 sentences were meant to reflect my experience transitioning from a candybar phone to a flip phone. The other sentences were targetted at how the speakerphones work throughout the entire Sanyo line of flip phones.
