I'm getting ready to buy one of these 2 phones in the next couple hours, and would love you guy's opinions on which one to buy.
I've spec'd these two phones on all the websites I can find, and it seems that the Samsung is probably the better phone, although the Sanyo does have a few options that this one doesn't (Ready Link, etc).
Please advise.

I am far from an expert around here..but my Sanyo mm7400 ( of almost 2 months) still doesn't have great sound. I bought it because my Sanyo 8100 really sucked in the sound department. My husband has a Samsung and the ear part seems to cup my ear better and make it easier to hear the person speaking.
I love the fun things on the mm7400 though but the sound is not as good as I had hoped it would be.

the only better part of the a700 is the camera.
What about the screen and screen resolution?

o yeah but the screen looks really good on the 7400 and whos goin to be so picky about a better screen as long as the fone works. i mean comon back in the nintys they didnt even have screens so atleast it has a screen and its not bad too.

The A700 has the better screen of the two.
I LOVE my MM-A700. I wouldnt change this baby for a Sanyo. I just got rid of mine and I really like this one more! :waycool:

I would go with the A700 since it is compatible with the upcoming EV-DO where the 7400 is not.

I don't think either phones are EV-DO compatible. I think the only current sprint phone that might be is the 6601.

Had both I got rid of the 7400, the a700 had better reception, better sound, better screens, better camera. Now this's my opinion.
i have had both and gotten rid of both. The 7400 sucked really bad but i REALLY liked tha A700, it seemed to me that everything on it was better... now i have a 5600 n that destroys them both. But if ur gonna choose between them go with tha A700

Exact opposite for me.lol As goes for the 700 having a better screen I think if it does it's not really that noticable. These are all the reasons why I like the 7400 better than the 700
Speakerphone
Rugged Desing
less web errors/better web surfing
flashlight
longer battery life
take picture with phone closed
better reception
I probally forgot a few. You can't go wrong with either. The 700 does have a better camera and earpiece but not by much.

Hands down no question had them both and if had to choose again I would take the 7400 over the A700 100 times over!

This is the information that I got from an employee of Sprint. Unless he has no idea of what he is talking about I am gonna stick with what I said about the A700 being compatible with EV-DO.

The Samsung a700 will not be compatible with EV-DO.

Most of sprintusers know more than most of the average cs person at Sprint sad to say but it is true. The A700 will not be EV-DO compatible I believe you can take that statement to the bank! There will be a phone a samsung I think that will be EV-DO but it is for certain not the A700!

It really depends on what you want...
The 7400 has gotten overall better reviews for solidity and features, but I cannot comment on the A700 since I've never used it.
I say go for the 7400 and get it updated.

Man that is so true. I dont know how many times Ive been in Sprint Stores and told them about thier phones. When I first got my 7400 the sales clerk asked me how I liked the megapixel camera. And before the 5600 came out I was telling them about its features.. :hee:

I went out with a girl who worked as a CS Rep for Sprint and I told her about a lot of things. She was as dumb as 10 bags of bricks (when it came to Sprint compared to my knowledge)

I've tried both, and I would take the 7400 everytime.
All options aside, the 7400 felt better, sturdier, stronger than the 700 and I don't feel like I am holding a TOY when I hold the 7400.
IMHO, I have always felt that the Samsungs have felt like cheap toys ever since the A500 came out.
Prior to that, the N400 even felt sturdy.
Oh well, you'll have to make the ultimate decision, so go out and make us proud!!!!!

I had 2 of the A700s. The screen is fantastic. That's about the only thing I liked about that phone over the 7400. The A700 was pretty buggy for me. It rebooted on its own on a daily basis, and both would freeze. 1st was a refurb, 2nd was brand new. This was within a 2 week period.
My 7400 has been going strong since the day I got it.
I think it's obvious where my vote is.
Actually... the only other thing I liked about the A700 was the Call Waiting display. When you have another call and you switch to it it shows the 1st call greyed out on the screen and the 2nd call as the active, and you can keep switching back and forth between the two and it'll highlight. Pretty cool :tu:

Before I recently purchased my new ppc6600 I had the a700 and my gf had the 7400. When I upgraded to a pda I gave her the choice between the 700 and her 7400 and she didn't hesistate to switch. Obviously we don't use ready link so that wasn't a factor. But we both prefer the feel of the 700. The camera alone was a big factor but neither of us was ever particularly happy with the sound quality on the 7400. Also, the 700 got significantly better reception at our apartment. My old a620 dropped calls there frequently, the 7400 once every week or two, but the 700 has only dropped 1 call there since last august. To summerize, we both prefered the 700 due to the camera and the feel of the phone and the fact that we could hear better on it. I don't know how much of that was the earpiece or the reception but we both found it to be the case. This is not to say that the 7400 is a bad phone by any means, and if you want RL or a speakerphone its the obvious choice but the 700 serves us well as an excellent phone with one of the best cameras sprint currently offers.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input!
After looking at both phones for a while, and really considering options, and the fact I'd probably keep the phone for 18+ months, I decided to splurge a bit further.
I got the Sanyo MM-5600. :)

what the 700 has to offer it does it better than the 7400, on the other hand the 7400 does more for a cheaper price. besides, the most important thing the 7400 has that the 700 doesn't is a speakerphone....
