When I send email from my computer via the phone, I have to use smpt.sprintpcs.com.

Problem is the spam service at http://ordb.org/ has determined this domain to be an "open relay" for spammers and now several domains are blocking any emails from smpt.sprintpcs.com.

Does anyone have a solution to this??

HELP

Thanks
Raphael

Maybe you could use your internet providers outgoing mail server instead of smpt.sprintpcs.com.

Use the outgoing email settings that your internet service provider has established for their customers email. And add your sprintpcs address to the "reply to box" in your pop program so replies don't go to the new outgoing server's address -just a thought.

(My ISP is going to start blocking outgoing mail using port 25. I have smpt.sprintpcs.com using port 25 and it doesn't seem to work if I change it to a different port number so I might have to use their server instead. Or I will just turn off their firewall that blocks port 25.)

Here's some info from my ISP about how large ISP's are starting to block outgoing mail from port 25 and how to change port numbers for a possible fix but I believe it's implying that you use their server also. Maybe your ISP offers similiar information to deal with this?

I saw this in another chat room:

"...BUT I have observed in the past 6
months or so a change as well: Sprint/Vision (at least in most locales) is
now blocking port 25 (SMTP) for anything other than smtp.sprintpcs.com.
That is, whereas a while ago, you could use your own SMTP server to
send out emails from a Vision phone, now you MUST use smtp.sprintpcs.com."

-So maybe you can't use your own server after all? In my case I can just turn off my ISP's firewall that blocks port 25 outgoing mail and still use sprint's server.

Kay, I assume that this was just a fluke that both of you incorrectly wrote 'smpt' right? It should be 'smtp'... :D

I run my own SMTP server, and I use port 250 instead of 25. It is a open reley, but the spam tests try to check it, and since they can't connect to port 25, they figure it is not an open reley. Also ISP's like AOL won't accept smtp servers that originate from a cable modem IP, so I just bounce all the SMTP traffic off of my ISP's SMTP server...
But doing this, I don't have the file size limitations that I do with my ISP's server.

You DO or you DON'T have size limitations this way? If you don't, I wouldn't have made it sound like a bad thing...
