View Full Version : RL-7300 vs RL-A760 vs V60v for reception and clarity

My old reliable Samsung SPH-N300 just became an old dog when it started dropping calls and turning itself off all the time as it's reception became lousy.
My priorities are clamshell, reception, clarity, and ruggedness, in that order. Any features beyond the usual are just icing on the cake. I cannot have a camera on the phone, period.
I had decided that I would get a new phone and use the $150 rebate plan to help with the cost. I had decided to get the V60v, based on the Motorola reputation, but, when I got to the store, they did not have any, period... My next choice was the RL-A760, based on my experience with my old Samsung. They were temporarily out of stock. The RL-7300 looked nice and rugged, and fit well in my hand and against my head, so I got one. Reception seems to be about the same, barwise, as my old phone, but it seems to keep connections even when it has no bars, so I think it's calibrated differently. I've got 14 days to take it back, but I was wondering if the RL-A760 is any better for what I need a phone for, and I have no idea if I can exchange the phone, which I bought at a store, for one I have to order(V60v) and if it is any better.
Comments welcome.

It depends what you need, I suppose, besides just pure reception and voice quality.
The Motorola v60v is a *really* solid phone, reception-wise, but it's got a limited feature set. The color screen is very "blah," the ringers are monophonic, and it's not Vision-capable, so you're pretty limited to what comes on the phone. Battery life is decent, though, and having a slightly metal phone is rather nice.
The Samsung A760 is a good phone, but a lot of people have had battery-related problems with it...feature-wise, though, it's pretty decent. Speakerphone works great.
The Sanyo 7300 is a great phone...reception-wise, it's very good, if not great, and you get a little bit more with it. The screen is much bigger than the other two, and it's TFT, so it's a lot sharper. The speakerphone works very well...maybe not quite as well as the Samsung, but it's very good. Battery life is good out of the box, but the extended makes it outstanding...and, of course, it's got the external caller ID in color as well.
I've owned all three, and I favor the Sanyo, but they all have their good points. If you don't need anything extra on it, I'd say the Moto would be a good choice...

I've been using the 7300, and it seems to do as well as my old phone, before it messed up, with better quality sound, both in and out, so I guess I'll take the lazi man's choice and stick with it. Thank you very much for your input. If the Moto was in stores, I'd trade it, but I don't feel like going thru the hassle of ordering it...
I'm very pleased with the clamshell design. I love having the earpiece and mic in the right places without having to move the phone up and down, and I like having the keys covered, the way they were with the N300.

Yeah, I really miss clamshells myself, lately...and I *really* miss my 7300. The design is what kept me around...I love phones that are "built Ford tough," as you might say, but Nextel service is horrible in my area, and no other carriers seem too concerned about building people-resistant phones...
