View Full Version : Recieving SMS' from other companies... Did something change recently??

Has anyone noticed that lately, new customers to Cingular and T-Mobile have the '1' added to the beginning of their phone numbers when you recieve an SMS from them?

I added in two my my friends that just got new phone numbers...

one was on Cingular, and for a year or so, messages always came in the XXX-XXX-XXXX format... which is great, because that's how the numbers are stored in the phone book...

now just recently they both got new accounts, one with T-Mobile, and one with Cingular, and every time they SMS me, it shows up as "from" X-XXX-XXX-XXXX.....

I had to change the phonebook entries to X-XXX-XXX-XXXX so that my phone would recognize SMS messages from those people... but no one else on my phonebook requires that... kind of weird... out of about 40 people I regularly text message, two of them now require a 1 in front of their number...

When I SMS someone, on ANY provider, it shows up as XXX-XXX-XXXX... never a one in front...

if anyone knows of a way to make my phone recognize the longer number, while still keeping the shorter number in the phone book... please let me know

thanks,
Steven

I'm happy, and sad at the same time that everyone else is having these problems too...

Hrm, my 4050 automatically recognizes it from these people, even though there's no "1" in front of their phone number.

Maybe its because Sprint knows that it only has U.S. phone numbers, while an SMS from outside could potentially come from anywhere? Dono.

your 4050 recognizes CALLS and SMS messages from other providers... without the '1'?

Yep! The only difference is that the "1" now shows up on the text message under "information" , even though in the phone book I don't have a 1 there.

Guess the Toshiba is just "smart" :-P

same here with my toshiba it says the name of the person who sent it (or whatever they're saved as in my phonebook) but it says one in front of their number. i was just wondering about this a few days ago when it started.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-5400/US/1.0) NetFront/3.0 MMP/2.0)

My Sanyo recognizes any number combo like 11, 10 and 7 digit. There's even a *67 added to one of the numbers and when they call me it recognizes them without the *67.
