Hey All,
In the last week , I noticed that when I send out text messages (not short mail), the replies have been coming back as short mail (not text messages).
And in the last several days, all my inbound text messages (replies and new messages) have been being delivered to me in short mail format.
Any thoughts on why this is happening? I've been using regular text messaging for months now and I was happy to finally be rid of short mail. AND now it is back!!
Thanks.

I'm guessing you actually meant a Sanyo 8200.
Is the person you send the msg to only able to send shortmail and not sms?
This could be the reason for your recieving the SM instead of SMS.
Just one theory!

Yes, sorry, 8200. Oops..
No, these people have sent me regular text messages in the past and many of them are sprint users.

Then you may need to contact SPCS Tech Support and see if they can see something in the network that is causing this.
I know, since I used to be a Tech Support at SPCS, that a change in your plan, services or otherwise can sometimes screw up the network settings. Maybe you'll get someone who knows how to find this out and fix it for you.
The other thing I recommend is to disconnect your battery, with the phone on, then wait about 2 minutes, reconnect, make a regular call and then send a msg again and see how it comes back.
I know this doesn't sound like it could work, but it might. You'd be surprised how many times this has solved problems. Besides, they are gonna make you do it anyway, and you can say you already did if it doesn't work!

I just spoke with a rep and she couldn't help me. She is creating a ticket for the problem. She said they are "integrating" short mail and text messaging and that may be causing the problem?
Should I just call back and try to get a different rep?

Other people (including myself) have had this problem when switching from a non sms phone to a phone that is sms capable (i use the 8200 too :) and it seems like "opening a ticket" is the way people have gotten it corrected. Did they give you a turn around for responce time?

Ha ha. I asked her, she didn't know, that is all she could tell me. She opened a ticket and said that there has been some other reports of it in the Chicago area.

PS - I've had the phone (S 8200) for several months with no changes to my account.....it just started happening out of the blue late last week.

This is why I said I hope you get a Trouble Tech that can help. Just don't let them "reconfigure" your plan or anything, as this could delete things you have on your acct right now and you may not be able to get them back.
The Trouble Ticket usually takes about 3-5 business days to complete. If, after they call you or leave a msg that the problem has been resolved, and you still have the same problem, call right back and DEMAND, in a nice way, for a 2nd ticket to be done and this one will usually get escalated and have a better chance of it getting corrected.
Like I said, I used to work for SPCS in the Trouble Dept, and Trouble Tickets were something I had to do for customers and I know some techs just blow them off and say they fixed the problem.
Good Luck!

:( Just an update...still no solution to the problem.
All inbound text messages appear as -
<Unknown> This is where the sender usually appears
-----Message--------
New Short Mail.
Select "Go" to read it,
then a link to Short Mail.

Anyone else in the Chicago area experiencing this problem?
