I know there is lots of links to stuff like google, or the mapquest PDA -- but what I specifically wanted was the GPS Feature of mapquest to see where I am and a map of the area. I can't seem to find a way to download mapquest mobile on my MM-7400 and it doesn't list it as being supported. I can't figure out why it would not be supported. Any Ideas?

The phone would have to be GPS capable, (with a GPS antenae built into it) and have to have a way to download and save the application. Sprint phones don't offer GPS, so I'd guess that's the reason it's not supported

uhm... It obviously works on sprint phones, mapquest's website lists sprint and a ton of different phones through sprint (Sanyo: 4900, 4920, 5300, 5400, 5500, 7200, 7300, 8100, 8200, and numerous other brands). It does not list the MM 7400 though -- I think it's just to new of a phone and was just not added??!!

Further I was under the impression it was GPS enabled -- it says it has an "embedded GPS Chip" although it says for the E911, I figured this was the same thing -- and I thought I saw else where that it said it was (but had to be enabled per application.

Please clarify!

MapQuest Mobile doesn't use your phone's GPS functionality. It requires you to enter an address or intersection to display a map. Or, enter a starting and ending address to get driving directions. The same as if you went to their website on your pc. There was a demo available on the 8200 that I tested. (It cost $4.00 per month and is apparently not available yet for the 7400.)

Nextel seems to be the only carrier that has applications available to utilize the GPS functionality. In fact, they have two such applications. I saw the TeleNav in action over a year ago and it was incredible. It worked just like the NeverLost systems you find in Hertz cars.

So I'm hoping that the merger will bring those things our way!

Yeah that was great! I hope they bring that in the mix with the merger too! I used to go anywhere I wanted when I went to road trips without fear of getting lost!

TeleNAV on the i95cl I had was the best!!! :headbang2

You handset does have location capabilities (like GPS), but it requires an API.

Your handset makes a call to an API, over the air, to an LBS server at Sprint. Assuming the application you are running is signed properly, it will return location data.

I currently have a signed version of a Sprint demo GPS applet, and it has yet to be turned on.

I just downloaded MapQuest Find Me for my i830. If it can't lock a GPS signal, it uses the closest tower location. Works great.

I'm confused. Do you have Nextel? The MapQuest Find Me website says it's only for Nextel phones.

# From your phone's main menu, select Downloads
# Select Applications
# Then choose Get New
# Select the Travel category
# Download MapQuest Mobile

Is this the same thing? Or is there a free, or demo version available?

Mapquest Mobile and Mapquest Find Me are two different apps http://www.mapquest.com/features/main.adp?page=slashmobile

You can get directions at Yahoo and send them to your phone. Works great.

And it's free too. You can also use the Yahoo's WAP site for directions. It works just mapquest but with out the map display. It only shows step by step directions in sentences

That was one function I liked about my Nextel. I could tell exactly where and how far away the closets Nextel tower was. Maybe it's just a geek thing, but it was a great thing to know!

Can one aquire an i830 on a sprint contract or does one buy the phone the enable it through sprint?
