as a low end phone this is going to be a hot seller. the speaker phone is decent to good and the call quality was excellent. not sure if i am a battery door fan or not, but it seems solid on this phone. there is a dedicated messaging button that i dont like (personal preference), and only 2 of the directional keys do anything from the stand by mode (as far as I can tell the other 2 arent programable). Key pad has green backlight. It is a typical Sanyo hindge, and takes both charger types. the phone seems thick compaired to the VI660 and the screen seems about 1/4 smaller. It is a very basic featureless phone. Ill try to attach pictures in a second. Seems like a good phone for my parents.

I'm torn, get the pink 200 or just reactivate the 8100 for the kid. Hmmm...I could always get one of our SU folks that do led's to switch the green ones out?!. I hate thinking to hard.

I think the front would look real good w/ and external lcd and some more details. It would look better than the 5600(nasty :( )

Boy, I just don't like this phone at all. I can't think of a good reason to purchase this over the Nokia 6016 other than a larger display, but I'd gladly take the Nokia over it anyway. (Not like you can download pix to this anyway, so what's the point?) This thing looks so damn cheap, and I mean CHEAP. I think it should come with a wallpaper of a chickadee and a matching ringtone "cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap."

We might not like the phone, but I know more people that just want a basic phone, then (me) people that want a high end phone. These basic phones sell very well in all markets.

 Let's not make this a "geez that phone is sooo ugly thread, I'd never buy it." Because you have the fundage, or are willing to sacrifice to purchase a high end phone. This phone is for people who don't have a need for all the gadgets, bells and whistles others of us like on our phones. So keep your redundant comments to yourself. Pleeeze!

My word, are you seriously saying that sanyo made this phone? Unbelievable. The phone looks bad from outside. Looks alright inside. I agree with adding an external LCD but first look at it though it did have one underneath that silver plating but guess not. The speaker look is way out of whack compared to the other sanyo models. Why in the world would they do something like that? I guess they are not really good on making low end phones. The distrubution of this phone only in your area or does other sprint stores have them? Man, the thing looks like a modified Family Walkie Talkie GPRS radios instead of a sprint low end phone.

i'm not really surprised or anything, sanyo phones always have a bland look to them.

i'd bet the navy blue casing makes it look 10x better though.

We only recieved silver. at a price point of 169.99/19.99 it really is geared to people that want a low end flip with out the need for vision. It could be a lot better in many aspects, but so could all phones released. If I were looking for a cheap low feature phone i would concider it.

i.e. pre-teen my kids don't need a vision phone just something I can use to get in touch with them.

I guess I should give my opinion...I think it is cute. Now for us as said earlier...it has very little appeal but for someone who wants a flip no bling it is great...$19.99 new act is excellent...

this thing is horrible. ugly, small screen even compared with the already small a660's, and green keypad lighting...what the hell was sprint thinking??

It's a good phone. I've played with them and the 8200 and they are essentially idential. And to say that this is good for people without "vision" I don't know what you are talking about. It does not have a camera but it does the internet and all that junk just fine.

Summary

Monocrome 1 line external display.
Smaller screen then 8200
The back panel is plastic and feels a tiny bit cheaper then the 8200
About 1 milimeter thicker then the 8200 due to having a platic battery panel instead of an integrated battery into the back piece.
No camera

Very responsive and just in general a high quality experience if you are willing to accept the points in the summary.

Personally I would prefer the Sanyo 200/2300 over the 5600.

On that topic I bought a 8200 today because I thought we were still weeks off on the 2300 or I might get a 7400. Does anyone know how long you have to return your phone?

And personally I think the front of the phone looks awsome.

One last thing, under messaging there is an option for "instant messaging" if you use that it takes to web and give you 3 options. AIM/MSN/Yahoo. I know that all of these services are free but to just point straight to them off one of the main menus I think will get alot more people using them.

Ummmm.... what happened to the 1 line monochrome (orange) external display? Can I not see it because of the lighting or did they change the model in the last few weeks?

Someone has confused the 200 and the 2300. the one that is out is the 200. no vision (no aol or yahoo messaging) no external display. those are traits of the 2300, which is a few months off if i have heard correctly.

... OH OK! That makes all the sense in the world.

Some of our literature refers to them as the SCP-200/2300, but that makes sense.

Ok I like the 2300 then, and it shouldn't be that far off. I figure it should be around the same price as the 200 because its defentally cheaper then the 8200. Extermely similiar to the 200 cept for all the things I listed.

Just because a phone is entry-level doesn't give it an excuse to be cheaply made and a rip-off. I'm not saying the v200/v2300 is either/or (I believe they will be good additions to the Sprint lineup), as I've had no experience with them, but if that is the case, it's bad on Sanyo's part. An entry-level phone should be without the bells and whistles of your high-end model(s) but at least have the build quality of that tier of phones. It goes toward your company's reputation. Whether a customer is paying nothing or $429.99, they should receive a quality handset with no corner cutting. Just because a person doesn't care for Vision doesn't mean they won't drop their phone as much as or less than a 5600 owner.

This phone also shouldn't be looked down upon simply because it's in the 8200's shell. Samsung has been re-using the a500's since the dawn of time, not to mention Motorola (Startac/V60 series, anyone?) and Nokia (every damn thing they offer minus the N-Gage) and all the others. I'd prefer that it's design be taken from the 8300 instead, but who knows when the idea for these phones was sparked?

Aside from that, the v200's front view is ass-ugly. I'd have to keep it in a drawer or a pocket somewhere, wouldn't want to wake up to that on my nightstand.

This is the V200. It does voice only with SMS text messaing. No outside CallerID. It is available in 3 colors: silver, pink, and blue. The box says that some colors may be limited availability. So whoever wanted the pink one, there is no telling when it will be avialable in that color and for how long. $169.99 - $19.99 with activation.

The VI2300 will have vision plus SMS text messaging. 1 line outside CallerID. It will be available in 6 colors. blue, silver, rose, grey, maroon, and green. No price point yet but will be inbetween $170 - $210.

Im thinking this is a phone geared to folks with kids myself, which is something I think that Sprint needs. Gotta have something cheep for the kiddos on the family plans to keep in touch and not be out big bucks when they break or lose thier phones. And with young-uns it will happen. When I was in the Sprint Store the other day doing my exchange I watched a family shell out big bucks for an a740 for each of three kids the oldest being around 12. Now realisticly how long does anyone with kids think these phones will last... hell I gotta 17 year old that makes me nervous everytime he looks at my phone. Front of the phone kinda looks like a cylon from the old Battlestar Galatica show.....way kewl! :D

When a phone will probably be offered for free, there should be very little to judge about, i dont think the phone looks all that bad for it to be free, how many ppl do you see on here with a A660, 6016i or the 3588i, not too many i think there are more 5600 users on here already then ppl that use the free phones altoghther. This phone maybe too low end for most of us here, but how much bling do you want to have. Sprint will be giving these phones away like hotcakes with new lines..I think i will upgrade my grandmother VI660 to this phone, nothing against sammy, i just love sanyo's phones, seems like theyre more durable and can absorb shock from a fall better. All im saying is dont be to harsh on this phone, if you had a 70 year old grandmother or a 12 year old child would you by them this phone or a 56/7400. thats what i thought............ :tu:

The reason you can't get it through telesales is because this phone launched as a "Sprint Store Exclusive." It will be available ONLY through Sprint stores until mid-April. (I believe the 9th.)

I saw that people posted some information about the 2300 - but does anyone have any pictures or anything. I wouldnt mind getting it to replace my LG. It stays in the car anyways - but the LG is now fugly - always was in my opinion - I just liked the fact that it was grey and black with an internal antenna....little did i know that it would be one of the biggest mistakes EVER!

When i first got my plan i had a nokia phone - the nokia was great b/c it was free (I have always loved nokia's) i always had service - but it had no vision and i found it purty boring after awhile.

My point after rambling is the fact that lower end phones can be cool - espically for the kiddies or people like me - i use it as my "car phone." And there are times were these lower end phones are better than the higher end ones.

Okay im done now ;)

as a low end phone this is going to be a hot seller. the speaker phone is decent to good and the call quality was excellent. not sure if i am a battery door fan or not, but it seems solid on this phone. there is a dedicated messaging button that i dont like (personal preference), and only 2 of the directional keys do anything from the stand by mode (as far as I can tell the other 2 arent programable).

I tried to keep an open mind about this phone, but I've found that it just has too many shortcomings to be a hot seller. I understand that its meant to be a cheap phone with minimal features, but it just doesn't measure up.

No external caller ID, not even an LCD
Extremely small display (have to see it in person to know what I'm talking about
Display doesn't look good at all

The lack of external caller ID in particular is what will kill this. I have enough trouble selling VI-660s as it is due to the no external caller ID, and those are cheaper than this phone.

The market that this will cater to is a very small market. It will appeal to people who:

1: Are fond of Sanyo quality
2: Don't need or want all the bells and whistles
3: Want a cheap phone

Parameters 1 and 2 are very nearly diametrically opposed to each other. Sanyo customers tend to be feature whores (and I say that as a fellow feature whore who has a 5600 ;) ).

I had high hopes for this phone, but I'd bet a dollar that I will sell more LG 125s, which we just got in the store as well.

I dunno how small of a market this is, but I see plenty of VI660s.

Yes, and that phone is free with activation, which is my point. This phone has no vision and a smaller screen than the Samsung, and is more expensive. Customers unfamiliar with Sanyo vs. Samsung quality will likely opt for the Samsung. But we shall see.

According to the Sprint website, the Sanyo 200 is also free with activation.

Sorry, I had to pull the pictures because of some new stupid picture limit. I needed the space for my 2300 review.

hi,

my current Sprint plan carries the $5 unlimited wireless Internet feature(the slow one, not the Vision), if I switch to this Sanyo SCP-200 phone does it work with this wireless Internet ? The reason I asked is that this spec page says "no WAP" (page down 3 times) :

thanks

No. As a matter of fact, no current phone can use the old Wireless Web plans.

But I saw earlier post that the phone "can do Internet just fine"(see the link). So since it's not a Vision phone, I assume the person meant the slow wireless Internet - is it called WAP ? Otherwise, if this phone doesn't do the slow Internet and it is not a Vision phone, then how does one use it for Internet ?

the 200 is voice only...you really cant do anything other then make and receive calls and text people

the 2300 is the step up, which offers vision (web), speakerphone, and readylink, along with text messaging

Don't think so, it's a non-vision phone. Get a 2300.
