After reading all of the retention stories, I thought I'd post my favorable experience. I have been using the first version of the Samsung Palm phone for at least 5 years (and have been with Sprint for nearly ten). I have delayed upgrading phones for awhile, but the Treo 650 seemed to fit my needs. The problem was the sticker price. As with most, I looked all over the web for pricing and the prices ranged from $289 to $349, but only for new sprint users.
Based on some advice from this forum I called Sprint customer service, told them I was going to upgrade to a Treo 650 and that I didn't want to leave Sprint, but the pricing on the phone was motivating me to seek a different carrier. I pointed out the new user prices and the fact that I could switch to Cingular for about the same price range (actually $329 was the best I could find this week). I tried this twice. No help whatsoever. They were nice, I was nice, but to no avail.
Somewhat frustrated, I left the house several hours ago to visit the Cingular store and the Sprint store. I went to the Cingular store and they said they can't match any of the web offers. The in store price was $449. On to the sprint store. After waiting in line for about thirty minutes, I explained to the sales person my predicament. No threats, no blustering. I told him I didn't want to leave, but I wanted a new Treo and asked him if there was anything he could do to help me. I told him I would understand if he couldn't. Within fifteen minutes, he priced it at $470, gave me the $150 mail in rebate (which is what I'd seen on the net), and I had a new phone for $330 net of sales tax. He also advised me to drop the sprint to sprint charge and suggested reducing my minutes.
All in all, a very pleasant experience. I'm happy with the price, don't feel like I got gouged, and pleased that I don't have to leave sprint. A two year plan is not a big deal to me. The funny thing is that if Cingular had matched the net price of $329, I would have changed because of my frustration with customer service.
I hope you find this of interest. Now I have to go read the manual and try to hook up with Outlook. Of course, I also need to go buy a case, test bluetooth, buy more accessories.........

For Bluetooth and Outlook, as long as you have a USB adapter, or a Bluetooth-enabled computer, hooking up with Outlook is so easy and fast I was surprised. I should say that I'm using an updated Office 2003, a Motorola v551, and a Motorola USB Bluetooth Adapter. With this setup, I do need to have "BTTray.exe" running, but not Outlook. It's also really easy to send a contact to the phone, although on this phone it saves to the phone, not the SIM, (not an issue for you) and creates a separate entry for each number and e-mail address. It doesn't send the mailing address, webpage url, IM address, or picture. You can send a picture other ways, though. Also, in Outlook 2003, it would be nice if you could right-click (or similar) on the entry and select "Send To Bluetooth". As far as I know, you have to highlight the entry with a click, then go to "File", "Send To Bluetooth".
Hope that helps with any frustration. Took me about an hour to get the process done correctly and perfectly, going both ways.

Here's a few tips on accessories RLF:
1. If you want an expensive, flashy case, check out Vaja's cases, but if you want an inexpensive, dependable case, check out the Palm form fit.
2. The Sony HBH-660 seems like one of the best choices for a BT headset. I just got mine yesterday, and so far, it seems great.
3. You probably will need a large SD card. Check out your local Sam's Club or Costco. They have 1 gig cards for around $70.
4. Anytime you need any accessory for your 650, check out Dan's Cellular Accessories on eBay. He has a store on there, but when you search for it, omit the apostrophe in his name or you won't find it.
Finally, if you need any help with your device at all, go to www.treocentral.com. It is, in my opinion, the best forum for Treo users.

By the way, there are many, many more cases and headsets out there. Don't limit your search to those I mentioned. I just think those are the best.

Thanks all. I wasn't expecting replies so forgot to check the postings. I just ordered the Treo Wireless Headset made by PalmOne. Naturally, it's back ordered at every web store. Pretty good price though. $63 with 2 day delivery from Buy.com. I haven't looked at the cases yet. I've never been much of a belt/case person, but maybe I'll change. Phone is typically in the pocket. I do think I'll invest in screen protectors. I've never been much for adding apps to my palm, so I don't know about the memory cards (I did receive the free 128m card PalmOne offered with the new phones). I typically use it only for phone, appointment and to-do info. The reason that I got the Treo was for email and so far have been completely unsuccessful getting it to connect with our Exchange Server via ActiveSync. Othewise, it's working quite nicely with Outlook. Once I solve the email issues, I'll be one happy camper.

I've got the Jabra 250 from Palm (for the Treo650), a Cardio Scala 500 and the SE HBH-660 headsets, and prefer the SE headset over the other two. It does seem a lot clearer and more responsive. I'd recommend if the 250 is on backorder, cancel and get a SE off of ebay from dans cell for around the same price (and its not backordered).

I read all of the reviews for the headsets, and confess to be confused. I didn't think that the 250 was the model number for the new PalmOne branded headset. I'll have to check. Are you sure we are talking about the same one? When I checked the threads, it appeared that this was a fairly new offering, and the reviews were pretty good. My recollection from the threads is that is is actually made by Jabra, but tweaked for the 650.

i think the best price for the 650 wil be at Costco. I heard they should be getting it soon. The rep showed me the demo 650 he just got yesterday.

Not sure if you've checked treocentral (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=76782) but this issue has been exhaustively researched and all models reviewed by various users. This link is one of many threads.

I just tried your suggestion. spoke to the local manager and apparently they can give you $150 off plus the business discount of the additional $120 even if you are on a non corporate liable line.
this is great!
