Ok went to the Sprint store today to see if they had the update for my 7400, while I was waiting I saw the 5600 and thought I'd check it out. The first thing I noticed was that the hinge made the same sound and acted exactly like all of Sanyos hinges. Just made me curious because all I read about in the SprintUsers forums is how the hinge is like the Samsungs (no click and smooth).Oh I should say its not a creaking hinge I've heard some complain about. Did Sanyo change this due to some problems and go back to the regular Sanyo hinge? Or could it be that it was a non working floor model. Well just curious if anyone has seen this before or has one with the "Sanyo" hinge. My Sprint store is in New york if that matters.

Ok.. the hinge on the 5600 does NOT click. i played with the store by me's display version and it opened and closed smoothly.. but it sitll did not act samsungy where when u close it it exits out of what you were doing (thats because thats a software thing)

This just cracks me up when people bring up the hinge on the 5600! It is designed different from all other sanyo phones that's the biggest difference. When you open the phone there is no click when you close it however there is a slight clicking noise made. I think this is something that has been beat to death I for one think that this design is much better than the older phones. May not break as easily as some sanyo hinges of the past! Only time will tell but it is a good hinge though!

It's not weighted or whatever it is that Samsungs / Motorola have, but I like that, because I can prop it up and view it on a desk.

I just wanted to find out if anyone who works for Sprint has heard anything about a change with the phone because the one in the store i tried out today was exactly like all other Sanyos-click and snapping into position both opening and closing. I am very familiar with Sanyos flip phones I've had almost all of them so I am familiar with how the hinge functions. Honestly I could care less about it as long as it works but I just wanted to know if the design of the hinge was changed due to a flaw thats all.

Well I just got mine today and it doesnt sound like the old hinges but it does pretty much have the same feel. As in snapping into place at a certain degree while opening it and shutting it.

Okay, listen. I work at a sprint store. I was blown away that the "dummy" (display) phone (doesn't actually work) for the 5600 does have the clicking Sanyo type hinge, while the real phone (which I own) does not.
The deal with the creaking hinge, seems to be on only some of the 5600's. For example, my first one creaked like a bastard, by the second day it was unbearable. So I swapped it out for a new one and the new one I have had for two days and doesn't creak at all, and makes me wonder why the other one did.
But the strangest part of the whoel situation and the biggest question to me is why did Sanyo make the dummy phone click when the real one doesn't?

What's the deal with the 7400 update? I read a ton of 7400 posts and didn't recall reading about any updates. What's the software version of the update?

My 5600 makes a slight click and doesn't creak, but you really have to looking for the click because it is not very loud. However, my first 5600 was as smooth as the Samsungs and creaked like crazy. My current 5600 feels sturdy, unlike my previous one.
