I've been a reasonably happy 4050 user for the past year, but have been having some issues, one of which I just confirmed will never get fixed (the email "unsupported content type" error)...I use the phone a lot for business in place of a blackberry since vision/t-9 are pretty fast and I only have to carry one device...however, since there will not be a firmware update to fix the email, I've been looking at other options...my antenna recently just snapped in half (not abused at all) and my speaker has gotten pretty tinny above volume 2 (both using the speakerphone and regular earpiece), so the timing to make a change is right (especially since my warranty period ends in 3 days)...I am a business account and have basically been offered a full price Toshi credit to upgrade to a 5600, meaning my out of pocket cost to move to the 5600 is around $120.

Should I have any concerns about making the move? I know the 5600 has pretty much all the features the Toshi has (many upgraded), plus some additional features like multimedia, RL, etc...I do like to use many of the features on the Toshiba, so it's not like the 5600 would overwhelm me...I realize opinions are subjective, but keeping the $120 upgrade cost in mind, any opinions would be really helpful...I basically need to decide in the next 24 hours...

thanks in advance...

Personally I had both phones...I can only think of one thing the toshiba might do better than the 5600 ...that is maybe night pictures are better on the 4050 ...Other than that the 5600 is better IMO. $120 is a great upgrade price...so I would go for it....

You mentioned texting...the 5600 keeps the t9 setting until it is powered off then it has to be reset again...on the 4050 you could set T9....

thanks for the reply...I don't think any cell phones do or ever will take good night pics, so I won't worry about that...as for the T9 thing, as long as you only have to reset on power cycles (as opposed to every time you go into messaging), I don't think it will be a big issue for me...

any other opinions would be great...

thanks

Yeah, I'd switch to the 5600 if you've got incentive, based on your needs.

You Can Erase Your Email By Going Thru The Back Door. Lol. From Vision Main Screen Hit 0. Go To Messaging Then Pcs Mail. From There You Will Be Able To Erase Your Messages. :D

j thanks, I've actually used that trick...the problem is that it takes a lot more time because you have to log in (versus going straight into email from the messaging drop down) and the font is also a lot larger, so you have to keep hitting "more" to read even moderately long messages...that being said I know some others reading this will find your tip useful as a fix for a problem that Sprint/Toshiba will not address...if I only used my phone to check email infrequently, that fix would be a godsend...in my particular case, I use it a lot on business, and when you are trying to check/reply to emails quickly between meetings (etc) dealing with all of the crap involved became too much of a hassle for me...

I Agree. The 35kb Limit Is What Got To Me. I Have No Regrets Moving Up To The 7400. Get The Sanyo 5600. People Seem To Love It. Tempted Myself!

If I had a 4050 and didn't want to get a PDA phone I would have gone with the 5600. It is the only phone really so far that has had all the features of the toshiba but also added more features like better camera and miniSD card slot. If you need a new phone and don't want to consider PDA phones the 5600 is a great option.

I've used both phones, the 5600 is better in almost every way. But 4050 has it's good points, but I think you would enjoy the 5600.

thanks for the opinions guys...I called Sprint earlier today and decided to upgrade to the 5600...I don't need PDA functionality right now (until my Clie TG50 clunks out)...I was an early adopter of the PDA phones and had some bad crashes on business trips and decided to go back to two dedicated devices for a while...the Treo 650 looks like the first one to really get it right, but it's more than I need right now...well, time to start searching all the 5600 threads I guess...
