Reading this thread (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61923) about Cingular and Verizon having MMS interoperability, I actually became worried that Sprint is going to end up doing this too. Will we all eventually be "grandfathered" into Unlimited MMS and fear losing it? Will PictureMail go away? I hope not. I think Sprint's PictureMail is by far, the best way to send and receive pictures from phones. If you send a PictureMail to another carrier, that person will get a text message with a web link that most newer phones can access. MMS has its size limitations and IMO is a bit quirky. Besides, I think that anytime you upload or share a picture, it is stored online, and that's probably the best feature of PictureMail.
So my question is... would you rather have MMS or PictureMail and please tell us why!

It depends, if Sprint manages to add pictures sent with MMS to be stored online like PictureMail than that would be great.
Also if they allow you to send sound files too like mms.

I can't receive pictures from anyone besides people from sprint, so i vote for MMS

anything that breaks down Sprint's "walled garden" mentality is a good thing. MMS for me.

I voted picturemail.
I want Sprint to set MMS up on their end. I want to recieve MMS messages on my phone. I want to send messages to MMS phones. I don't want to buy a new phone to do it.
Incoming MMS messages should be stored on the picturemail site and delivered to the Sprint handset as a picturemail. Outgoing MMS messages addressed to other carriers could go as they are or could be converted to MMS. The big advantage to MMS is that the message could be stored on the recieving handset.

I vote PM for the storage part of it. Receiving pictures directly on phone will create major space issues for some of us. I always have to delete as it is but every picture coming my way gobbling up my space immediately would be terrible. But, there are benefits to both. I would prefer the immediacy of MMS.

Now.....this vote may not show proper results.
I decided to vote for Picture Mail......but, like others, I want MMS Interoperability in the backend (and still keeping the current features of Picture Mail). Someone may want that same thing, and they might vote for MMS. I dunno...
But anyways........Sounds files, IMO, is not going to be worth much to ALOT of people (Yet). Yeah, sending MP3s to someone might be nice.....but STILL.....C'mon.
We already can (and have been able to for a while) send voice messages along with our Picture Mail.....so, it's a good start....(I have never tried it yet but, can you recieve the voice message on another compatible Sprint phone?)
Also if they allow you to send sound files too like mms.
Matt, which one would you prefer having tried both already?

I doubt you'll see much of a compromise as I believe that MMS is a set standard.

I've tried both. MMS is a standard, but it's clearly inferior when it comes to capabilities, even if it wins a little in convenience.
Advantages to Picture Mail
1) When you send your pictures, they're uploaded to a server which you can access, thus, no need to email pictures to yourself unless you want to.
2) Comments can be left. In many cases, this allows it to become a sort of forum, which is absolutely awesome!
3) Since it's a URL, keeping 100 picture mails on your phone is possible, whereas 100 MMS's? Gotta pay to send them to your email to save the image.
4) With picture mail, your phone downloads a scaled version of the original image, where with MMS, the full version must be manipulated, which is ridiculous if you've got a 1MP phone.
5) Picture Mail works great, where MMS has flaky reliability. Sending MMS to other Cingular customers always involved calling them afterwards to ask if they got it.
6) With Picture Mail, all of your photos are organized and archived on an online central site, so you can access them from a PC and download them quicker.
7) With Picture Mail, you can upload without sending, something not possible with all MMS phones
8) With Picture Mail, there's no question as to who will be able to view it- anyone with a SPCS Vision phone. (Video Mail is another story, but it still works well). MMS? Not everyone can play the sound clips, not everyone has enough memory, and then there are miscellaneous errors.
9) Picture Mail also makes it easier to manage large quantities of photos (Erase All, upload all, etc.) . The closest I've seen with this for MMS is only on Smartphones.
10) Picture Mail allows for album shares.
MMS Advantages:
1) It's cross carrier between VZW and Cingular
2) It's Instant
3) It's an "open standard"
4) You can customize it with wacky backgrounds, sounds, etc.

I can view verizon pics on my Treo by just following the link and, if I choose, downloading it. I dunno if it works in revers, but I've heard it does if the phone is internet capable...which just about all are now.

I vote for Picture Mail... back end Sprint compatibility with MMS would be *awesome* and I can't see why it wouldn't be something Sprint is already working on.
The only concern lingering is that Picture Mail would become like Short Mail... sure it works intercarrier... but it sucks compared to SMS!

Nice avatar by the way...
Thanks!
Anyway, I can't imagine it sucking like ShortMail because it's an ingrained part of Sprint phones. In fact, picture mail rocks for the same reasons Short Mail stunk- its tight integration with phones and the service.

Picture Mail uses a method similar to MMS to send pictures to the Sprint without (Manually) using the browser. So its not nearly as bad as Shortmail. I think Sprint did the right thing of dropping Shortmail and keeping Picture Mail the way it is.

Nice list coyote. Based on that list I will stay with PM. All they really need to do is make a way that you can send pictures to other companies (Mainly GSM carriers).
