On the main screen? If so then you can edit the display to make it whatever you want. On Caller ID? Call sprint and ask them to make your name appear as private. Or Wireless caller. They can make it say whatever you want, as long as its not vulgar!

Virgin mobile calls using the sprint network say wireless caller, so that shouldnt be that big a deal.

When I signed up for Sprint PCS (Dec 2003), they told me that I had to display my name, sort of like it was a law :( So, was that a fabrication?

Could be a state law...

But heck......on all landlines around here (except for Sprint, it seems), the name does not show up for Sprint phones. Only number.....but, as I said, the name does show up on Sprint landline Caller IDs.

FYI,

It is now against FCC laws and regulations for carriers to change display names to anything other than phone owners acct name.

You can have your carrier display "Private" or "Blocked" as far as CID is concerned.

The the biggest drawback to having your number blocked is that alot of carriers now have "Blocked Call Reject" and if your number is blocked, you wont be able to get through to the number dialed unless you enter in the unblock code prior to your number.

This is okay for some, but very cumberson otherwise.

Anyway!

Or call and have your number blocked...really simple thing to do, and doesn't cost anything at all.

...I'm the opposite....don't wanna have everyone know where I am....better to leave location off, particularly since it doesn't affect 911.

FlameOut - Be aware that *67 does not work on toll-free numbers.

Which carriers? More detail on Blocked Call Reject?
A friend has call blocking, a few months ago she would call me, a person who uses tmobile, and cingular. They all accepted her call w/o a problem.

==========

There is a way for your number to appear "Private" on the Caller ID of the person you are calling :

1. If you want just a certain number to NOT see your name / caller ID on his or her phone, just press *67 followed by the 10-digit number you want to call (eg. *67-702-888-2222)

2. If you want to BLOCK your caller ID on ALL of the calls that you make, you can call Sprint Customer Service by dialing *2 on your PCS phone or 888-211-4727 using other phones. You would be helped in adding that option to your account with NO charge.

** As to what name that you can put on your caller ID, just call cust service and you can have it personalized, just as long as it doesnt contain any profanity or vulgar words. You can even set it up with just your initials. After it has been changed, it would take 72 hours before it takes effect **

Yet you can still have your home phone listed under any name you wish in the phone book. Makes your number "unlisted" without paying the fee.

Many cell phone carriers still offer "wireless caller" as an option. Your technically not lying, just not showing your name with your number. Heck, some areas still dont have caller ID with name available! Around here, one phone company has caller ID with name and the other doesnt, so you show up as New York on caller ID.

But yes, if you just dont want your number showing up, you can *67 or have it blocked. Remember though, if its blocked sprint charges you and the person getting the call for pcs to pcs calls. Its part of the rules for getting the calls free, that the caller ID info can not be blocked.

P.S. if thats your pic ShellyAnne, your signature is correct :)

Yes *67 is an option but i know in my area if you try to call some numbers as in my house and you try putting *67 in front the call will not go thru because we have call blocking on our house phone if the names and number is unrecognized ur call will not be completed and you will get the dreaded automated beeps and the woman saying you must try ur call again!!!!
