I'm giving my phone (sanyo 8200) to my brother and it has alot of scratches and everything, and he wanted the phone to be UNC colors so I asked my friend if he could try and paint it and he said sure. Is this a good idea? Anybody have any suggestions or pictures?
buy a face plate?
my daughter painted her 3588i with nail polish. if you use a good kind, they hold up pretty good. ask a woman what a good polish is to use, i don't know. if it cracks or peels, you can remove it with polish remover and then repaint it. in the end, we bought her a new housing.

yeah, somebody here in this site did paint his 5500 into a nice forest green color rather than blue. And he did an outstanding job. I suggest that its a good idea if you know what you are doing.

This may sound wierd, but I've used Appliance Epoxy for devices like this that have severe signs of wear/tear.
The stuff is T ... U ... F ... F ! TUFF!
Another choice is to have it Powder Coated, better selection of colors. Most paint shops wont charge you a dime for a small piece like this. They'll stick it in with a batch of bigger parts some other customer is paying for.

Yes, it does. I used model paint and a fine brush. The result was rather hideous. Your best bet is to buy an aftermarket faceplate.

Yes it will void his waranty just as much as the scratches all over it have already voided it. I suggest since it's scratched up that you go all out on this and then post us some pics. But find special tols if you can to take the case off (be careful) Once the case is off, I'd sand any scratches down with as low a grade of sand paper or steel wool that you can find that will remove scratches that may be deep enough to show through paint. Then I'd use a real high quality paint. I don't know enough about paints so I'd ask someone who does for the kind of paint that would match the look and texture you want. For me, that would have to be something that shines a lot, enamel maybe? But, I'd do it with the case off. Lots of little holes in those things and iwth the case off, you'll be able to get it PERFECT.

TechTV actually did a segment about this a year ago.

Airbrushing would probably be a good idear too.. but you would prob have to take the phone apart.
