open your file.....in the middle you will see two timers......the first one is where you want the tune to start......the second one will set how long from the end it will play.......so as you move the second one you will see a little timer in the left corner of that box that will change when you set the second timer......just keep going until that little timer reaches 25-30 seconds and then save the file........your file is now trimmed.....

Mp3trim Is The Worst. I Didnt Even Bother Readin The Rest Of This Thread. I Have A Suggestion: Audacity. Its A Great Audio Editing Program. I Actually Know Of A Few Good Ones; Just Not Off Top. Gimme A Few 2 Follow Up.

mp3trim is a pain because it has a very awkward method of trimming mp3s. for mp3s, i think "Wavepad" is the best (props to Deval for introducing me to it)... though i still go my old-fashioned SoundRecorder route for WAVs.

and to the OP:

You need to edit the MP3 file so it is less then 30 seconds, by opening any MP3 which you want to make as a ringer in the mp3Trim program, and use the "How much do you want to trim" section to pick which part of the file you want to make as a ringer. Use the Frame tab if you want to start the ringer at an exact moment. Now, where it says "From the end", make sure to use the UP arrow when you find the end of the ringer, and not press the down by mistake. It will reset the starting time if you do. On the same section, there is a little timer which shows how long the file will be. Keep in mind that the ringer should be about 30 seconds, because after that, it will goto voicemail.

Once you have picked out the part you would like as your ringer, click on "Save As" and save the file on your desktop. This program also has a volume control so if you find your files are too low, you can make it louder. Now, there is also a fade option so you can fade out the end of the ringer just in case.

Once you have the file saved on your desktop, you need to convert it from whatever bitrate you have it to 32kbps, and MONO.

Nah, MP3Trim is the best! It took me a little time to get used to it. If you open a mp3 file in Winamp and MP3Trim at the same time you can pause the file in Winamp at beginning of the segment you want to record and then press the "W" icon (next to the purple play icon) in MP3Trim to mark that point as the beginning. You can do the same thing by pausing Winamp 30 secs later and selecting the end point in MP3Trim by pressing the other "W" icon. You can also amplify the volume of the Mp3 file while you are selecting the segment you wish to save. If you take the time to understand how to use MP3Trim you will likely find that it is a very efficient and easy to use program.

That's still too much work. Take the time to try other programs, you'll change your mind. Wavepad will let you physically edit out the part you want instead of having to switch between programs or the hassle of entering frame values.

To change it to *.m4a you just rename the file. Did you use DBPowerAmp or Quicktime Pro to convert the MP3 file?

The recommended output is in the FAQ... 22khz, 16bit, mono...

The answer to your second question is also in the FAQ...
The fix is easy, 1st, goto My Computer, and then goto Tools -> Folder Options. Click on the VIEW tab, and scroll down to where it says, Hide extensions for known file types, and UNCHECK that box, and then press OK. Once that is done, you can now rename the file extension from .mp4 to .m4a. Disreguard any warning from windows about changing the file extension.
Oh the advantages of reading the FAQ...

Yeah but if missmia is making AAC ringers with DB Power Amp don't they have to be encoded at 48kbits? If its with Quicktime Pro the the settings are 24kb/sec Mono 22.050kHz.

Yeah, good point. I just assumed she was using mp3trim+Quicktime Pro.
