I think the biggest difference will be on indoor pics. The outdoors are great and I think as long as there is good lighting the pics should be just fine.

Is it just me or do the leaves/needles on the trees look a little blurry? I'm see that too. It's like the pictures are paintings. i'm begining to see a pattern. Maybe they aren't on highest quality. (maybe there's a "fine" setting...etc..) I hope this is the case. I want to see other 5600's owners post pics. (don't forget to post indoor pics! and test the marco!)

Sanyo so far seems to have done a magnificent job! we don't have much to compare it to. we don't have many 5600's pictures yet. I would have to agree with you on that if you take the pic within say 5-10 ft of what your want you will be fine but get further than that and your in trouble. I haven't been able to get a good inside pic yet in low light so it may not be possible. Whoever said the samsung and 8920 take better pics good thing that's only an opinion because I have had both and this one is a little better than both. I didn't really like the samsung photos the 8920 really took good outdoor pics but the indoor were pretty much just like the ones I have taken so far if you keep the pic small it looks better the larger you make the pic the grainier it gets.

still dont beleive it.......they wouldnt consider this phone an mp3 player and give you a stereo headset to listen to the 1/2 of song you could fit on the internal memory......he said his card said read only......there has to be a setting to change that......if it was read only you wouldnt be able to put anything on the card period.......

Who can honestly look at the design of the 5600 and say "thats hot!" ??

CoreyTheGent

I'm not even sure if any of these 5600 pictures were taken in Macro-Mode, not to mention the lack of variety as they mostly came from one person in one climate. 5600 hasn't even been fully released yet, it's far too early to pass judgment.

at least Moto is taking some chances with the Razor.. Its the year 2005 , and we still have phone models from 1999.....amazingI agree. Motorola seems to be the only manufacturer still willing to take chances. With everybody else, their designs are just unique enough so that they're still "Safe," no big risks. The Razr V3 could've been the biggest flop in cellular history (and was on the verge of being so at first), yet they still put it out. You wouldn't see anything like that from anyone else.

Now that I'm done Moto D*cklicking, hasn't this been the same route with most Sanyo phones since the 5300? Hyped up, initially disappointed then it turns out to be a big hit? Cheer up, people. Wait for some more reviews/pics/info at least.

I bet you Sanyo'll end up getting that JD and Power award again this year.

People were expecting this phone to be the coming of Jesus, you set your sights too high. I can't blame them, though. Like I said, it's faulted by whoever decided to release the 7400 before the 5600. So far, it's exactly what I expected it to be.

Yeah, personally I'm waiting for Deval's word.

People were expecting this phone to be the coming of Jesus, you set your sights too high. I can't blame them, though. Like I said, it's faulted by whoever decided to release the 7400 before the 5600. So far, it's exactly what I expected it to be.

after using my other tech's phone...it seems to be good...but i'll be ready to post up a nice review later...basically from what i've seen, the videos look great and so does the mp3 player...the only problem is...i made the videos on the miniSd card at 176x220 res...so it looks blocky on the QVGA screen

I appreciate you guys waiting for my review :tu:

The camera is fairly on-par with the Tm150, which is sad, because the Tm150 has a CCD sensor.

The camera on the 5600 is fairly nice. I'm sure someone will take some very nice pics with it, soon!

So that means you are saying the Sanyo 5600 takes good pictures since its on-par with the TM150, which has a CCD sensor?

uh....try again BlueCoyote! I need Matt to get here and post some of those TM105 pictures. MUCH clearer and less saturated than these pictures. And it's a CCD image processor, not a lens, get it right Blue.

Relatively, yes. The Escape picture is a noticeable improvement over the magenta-tinged Audiovox and the crap-for-dynamic-range A700.

tuolumne
03-03-2005, 08:29 PM
Audiovox pictures are better than this Blue. Do a side by side look through. A700's are right on par with this phone's, which ain't saying much.

The only thing that will hurt you more than the A8's delays, tuolumne, is the fact that your smut campaign can't stop the 5600's shine. Once it's officially released, you'll be back to contemplating a "Vacation."

Do you plan to bring the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in here against the 5600?

See there ya go! Phones are just like computers when you buy 1 a month later it's already out dated. The A800 probably won't be out till 4th quarter anyway. They may already have a 4 or 5 mega pixel phone out by then or ready to relaese by then. This 5600 is everything I could ask for in a camera phone! Im thrilled to finally have it.

No it isn't. I've seen some good pictures taken with the Tm150, and it's neck and neck with the Nokia 7610 (which I think is better in low light / tricky situations, where the TM150 is best outdoors with Macro)

But when you compare the 5600 to the V710, the Samsung EV-DO phone, the A700, the 8940, and P735, it's a fairly good picture.

I think the pictures are right in line with a new phone. I remember when the 8920 first came out I had trouble getting pictures to come out nice. After several days of playing with the settings I actually was able to get really good pics. You may not be impressed which is fine I'm sure there are plenty others who are and are very happy with their new 5600 as I am!

CoreyTheGent

I'll agree with mtied that for $400+, they should look better than what I'm seeing.

I would be all for this passing of judgment had we been three weeks into the official release date, but folks, we don't even know what settings were used. We don't know anything except they are posted pictures taken with the Sanyo 5600. Give it time.

The camera is only one of the many features of this phone! I feel the price is pretty well justified! If someone is willing to pay for it then it is well priced, like I said earlier there will be plenty of people who will enjoy thier new phones. I happen to like the screen on this phone. I happen to really like the sound of the mp3 player sounds pretty darn good if you ask me. Headphones work well also. Ready link works, phone can dial out and receive calls without problem. Speaker phone is awsome better than any other sanyo out there. Menu is easy to use well set up could of been a little more colorful but hey better than the 5500. Speaking of the 5500 which this phone is replacing the camera on the 5600 is by far much better than that one, so you see well justified in price. If you want to wait 3 or 4 months the price may come down like it did with the 5500. So good luck!

Unfortunately people don't want to see the big picture (no pun intended), they just want to narrow it down to two or three things, namely the camera and UI. I'm not attacking them or anything, nor justifying it, but that's just the way it is.

'Sides, how many people were on a message board somewhere criticizing the Razr V3 during its initial release? How many Sanyo-Haters were around here tearing up the 5500 and 7400 when it was released? How many people are gonna be all excited about seeing "Revenge of the Sith" just to find out it's pretty mediocre like the previous Star Wars remakes? It's what comes with hype. The 5600 has everything it needs to withstand the hype and maintain longevity just like the Razr and that movie, but first it's gonna have to take a beating from naysayers.

Ladies and gents, welcome to the "Beating Phase."

Well I am so glad I have a phone that has a 1.3 megapixel camera on it that I carry with me everywhere I go and can take a picture of anything with a moments notice. I am so glad I have the abiltiy to print that picture from my printer as soon as I get home. I am so glad I don't have to carry my 3.2 megaopixel camera with me everywhere I go. mooney73

not to mention the lack of variety as they mostly came from one person in one climate. 5600 hasn't even been fully released yet, it's far too early to pass judgment.

Corey's right... and it's a cold climate at that. Perhaps the frigid weather slowed the CMOS processor and prevented it from taking pictures that looked like anything other than something from Monet or an A-ha video. ... {looks around for some more straws to grasp}

The 5600 has been "fully released," just not fully evaluated. Aside from some sort of OTA hail mary firmware upgrade, we can pretty much expect that this is the best this image processor can do.

Although I arrived at this conclusion on my own, I'll echo what other's have said: This camera phone isn't worth $430+ in the spring of 2005. The MP3 player, mini-disk, and pictbridge technology are all really cool ideas and I'm glad to see them implemented. And I think that the guys who have brought the phone for those features will not be disappointed. But, personally, I find the lack of even acceptable image quality disappointing, almost as much as the lack of EV-DO capability. These last two factors alone make this phone technically outdated as it hits the street, much less one that would command a nearly $500 price tag.

(and toulomne, I know you mean well... but the A800 may be a bit of a disappointment also. It's only 2 MP, while the Korean market gets 5 MP -- on a camera phone that doesn't even have autofocus. I think the industry is pulling one over on us, sluggishly introducing new feature sets that cause us to anticipate and gobble up new models, only to remain unsatiated enough to pine for and gobble up the next release.)

As for me, unless Sprint wants to offer me a $100 equipment credit to be used in conjunction with my $150/18mo discount on this phone, I'll be a Sprint ex-pat in hiatus over at Verizon with a VX8000 for a year or two, until Sprint offers products with techologies that I can quickly grow into, not out of.

i noticed that if you put pics from the pc on the minisd, it gives you a special effect option that isn't available for when you take pics with the camera saving them to minisd (or i couldn't find it), you can "stamp" the pic (see pic) (any yes you can put the stamp whereever you want on the pic)
http://www.southsidefunnies.com/go/files/560A0028.JPG

you can do a partial zoom which gives you a box to move to the area you want to zoom in on and save it as a new pic (new pic is zoomed in) and one or two others.

as compared with some of the shots in the Mobileburn Megapixel comparison article (www.mobileburn.com/story.jsp?Page=1&Id=940), I'd put the 5600 somewhere in the middle of the phones compared there. Definitely better than the v710 and definitely not as good as the SE s710a.

That said, for Sprint, I think this phone was a necessary step in the right direction (not in price though) and will be ultimately seen as a success as long as the positive reviews cointinue to come in.

i noticed that if you put pics from the pc on the minisd, it gives you a special effect option that isn't available for when you take pics with the camera saving them to minisd (or i couldn't find it), you can "stamp" the pic (see pic) (any yes you can put the stamp whereever you want on the pic)
http://www.southsidefunnies.com/go/files/560A0028.JPG

you can do a partial zoom which gives you a box to move to the area you want to zoom in on and save it as a new pic (new pic is zoomed in) and one or two others.

Try shooting in a lower res and see if you can then add the stamps. On my V800, it won't let me add clip art or stickers if the image is too big.

ok at med/low quality it gives you "multiple shots" "stitch shot" "fun frames" and the color tone options like the pics i posted above, and it does all the other mentioned above like "stamps" etc.

the whole point of macro mode is for close up shots... I guess it physically moves the sensor, or lense...

I hate the way cam phone pics are clear in the middle and blurry around the edges... is that a limitation on CMOS or what? my 2.1 digicam is clear almost all the way up to the edge of the pic...

i don't think it's a cmos thing. people have had the same complaints about the 5500 (not me though) so maybe it's just a trend for Sanyo camera phones...

I do believe it is because of the small lens size.

it's partly that, and also the limitations of a cheap CMOS processor.

whats stitch shot?

Stitch shot is basically a panoramic picture. You can "stitch" 2 or more pictures together to make a panoramic picture. This is one of the features on the 5600 and i think I will have lots of fun with it.

Have you uploaded the picture to your PC yet?

The Canon powershot line of digital cameras offer stitch mode. It works seemlessly, and provides excellent pictures. It takes 2+ pictures and "stitches" them together. I'm almost positive it is the same mode.

Comparsion pics: I like the 8200's shot better. The 5600's picture reminds me a little of the 5500's pics. It has a yellowish/orange tint to it. The 5600 has more color on the vase, but i feel like it's over doing it. The red is radioactive in that vase. I also think the 8200's shot is sharper...

Marco mode is pretty good on the 5600 though. There's a lot of times where i've wanted to take a close up shot but just couldn't. i'm glad the 5600 has marco mode. dolla dolla bills ya'll :)

Taking close-up pictures of small things is called "macro photography." I grabbed that line from http://www.photo.net/macro/primer. :)

so you cannot use stitch-shot to create a panoramic?

also, you can't use stitch-shot in full resolution mode? that would ruin it for me, because I'd never use anything less than the highest quality.

I would guess it is more a lense issue than a sensor issue. With a lense that is always exposed all the time, they need to make the lense very rugged. I suspect they lose something in the optics in the process.
