Would this camera take decent video. I really want a camera for quality pictures but if the video is good I would rather spend a few hundred more instead of having to carry around two seperate cameras (One for video and one for pics).

though i havent ever gotten good video from a still cam, best thing to do is find a local retailer that has one set up and ask them if they can show you video play back on a TV monitor. so many digital cams are hooked up to TV's at the stores now it shouldnt be THAT big of a deal to check it out yourself.

Seems decent, but I tend to figure that you'd want to have seperate devices, as they work great as a single shot or as a vid cam, usually not both.

I have a PC350 MiniDv cam... It also takes great pictures as well as awesome video! You can view video you just taped and convert it on the fly onto the memorystick while watching it. I do this for my websites all the time. Here's a review: http://www.dvspot.com/reviews/sony/pc350-review/index.shtml

Sony is a sexy name....you'd do better with an Olympus...

Anything higher than 4 or 5 megapixels is a waste unless you are a professional photographer or planning on blowing something WAAAY up....

Right now, if you're looking for a really good 5 megapixel camera, take a look at the canon s500. Right now it can be had for about 300 give or take, and is very compact. Also, it caries manual controls (which many that size don't). It take phenomenal pictures. Also, it uses compact flash cards.

Actually I have an Olympus and it sucks compared to my mom's Sony, but maybe it's just my camera. I'd say Olympus rocks with film cameras but they're just alright with digital.

IMO Sony and Canon make the best digital cameras. I agree with the poster that talked about the Canon S500 camera. Also you should check out the Sony DSC-W1. I used to be a big Canon fan until I used that Sony Camera. It has a bigger display, a few more manual controls and it's cheaper as well.

have you looked at www.imaging-resource.com and www.dpreview.com ? They do fairly comprehensive reviews. Depending on what you want to do, your choice changes. Think of a digicam is still photos only, the video on most isn't that great, and very few models allow continous shooting--usually a few seconds tops at anything over postage stamp size. My experience is limited to various Canons over the past 3 years, and I recommend their midrange to friends and family. Do read those two websites, you can get a very nice comparitive (they also do side-by-side comparions of feature AND photos).

With the little experience I have of digital cameras I recommend Canon. My brothers Canon s400 takes beautiful pictures and pretty decent videos too. My mom has a sony which takes good quality pictures. You should take a look at kodak now since they are re-estabilishing their name as one of the top manufacturers for cameras once again.

Actually Sony's video is much better than Canon. The Sony DSC-W1 can record 640x480 videos at 30frames/second until the memory card is full. The Canon S500 can record 640x480 at 10frames/second or 320x240 at 15frames/second for up to only 3 minutes regardless of how big your memory card is.

He was on Screensavers the other day (it's called something else now but cant remember right now) and he was talking about his website and showed that camera for what he uses for all his video on there.
