I'm not a sprint employee so I have no clue how many 6600s they will have. I called another rep to confirm the date and she told me it will be available between the 14th and 18th, next week.
As for the price, I suppose it will be $629 like the 6001

change your order, or send it back. sprinthas at least a 14 day no questions asked return policy, and more in some cases.

I tried about 5-6 times. Nobody was willing to give it to me, unless I registered my account under my company's Tax ID #. And to do that, I need to get my Tax ID certificate faxed to Sprint. Maybe I should register a company to get $240 back for the 2 phones I ordered.

But one should get back $120 even on the 6600, unless they don't sell it online or via the business desk, right?

I believe that should be the case because they're giving 20% off on pretty much every phone they sell that's equal to and over $189, see this link:

http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phoneCategories/allPcsPhones.jsp

They even state so here and in the extract below: http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/popups/popupDiscount20.jsp

Single device purchases only. Your device by itself or device plus accessory purchase must equal an SRP of $189.99 or higher to be eligible. Instant savings on Sprint PCS Connection Cards in Sprint Stores will vary in amount.

I definitely plan on getting this discount, and just incase they refuse to give it then I'll order the 6601, 'cause the camera isn't worth $130!

my guess is 6601 will be on the business side - 6600 geared to personal accounts - and guessing the 6600 won't have the $120 discount - at least initially - i hope i am wrong

Yes hopefully you're wrong because a lot of phones that are now getting the 20% discount are not truly business phones, but who knows, we'll see!

The rules of that promo state that it must be on a corporate liable account, not just an employee with a discount account. Unless the stores are changing the promo, even the people with a discount won't get the 20%.
Also, the 20% requires a contract renewal.

I am torn....I was on the 6600 list but give up when it was reported by Sprint the 6600 won't be available until as late as March or beyond. So I just got my 6601 replacement the day before yesterday.

I know I should stay with the 6601, because then there is no question about banned areas.....but the camera can be great to have in that moment your kids are doing something funny and you have nothing better around to capture the it.

So, I said, what the heck.....and I called Sprint. A Sprint rep made a note on my account saying that I should go into a Sprint store and directing them to exchange my 6601 for a 6600. I still haven't decided to do it yet or not, and I am not sure if it will work....but at least I hopefully gave myself an option either way.

I would not exchange a PPC6601 for a 6600. The camera, as you said, is banned in a lot of businesses. Who needs a low quality phone camera when there are digital cams with 8 mpix!

I went in to the Sprint store with a copy of the 'business only 20% discount', and told them that Sprint Customer Service said they would honor the discount at the store (which they did tell me) and the store gave me the discount on site, no questions asked.

I posted this elsewhere, and others said they were able to get the same discount at the store for personal accounts.

It's certainly worth a try!

Well fate made this choice for me. The cell phone Gods must have a wicked sense of humor and love to toy with me!

I went to take my son to see the Winnie The Pooh's Heffalump Movie tonight. On the way out to the car, he wanted to race...so we did. Half way to the car, my brand spanking new 6601 fell off my belt (I guess I didn't clip it on all the way), slammed on the pavement, the flap to my Proporta case then fell open as it slid face up along the parking lot. As luck would have it, the phone skidded right in front of my son (who of course was running) and he stepped on it and slid about two more feet on the phone!

Man of all the stinking luck, waiting so long, finally being so excited to have it back, just installed everything just right, and now I saw it all skidding away with my son riding it like a skateboard!

To my 3 yr old's credit, he stayed up and didn't fall. But I was scared to look at the phone.

When I picked it up and finally opened my eyes, the first thing I saw were 5 pin sized dents along the right hand side and just knew that as soon as I turned the screen on it would be a perfect spider web for a cracked screen.....but it did not!!!!!!!!!!!

This is either a true testimony that the 660x really is well built or that the extra protection the Proporta case offered during the initial impact was well worth the case.....or probably more true to the point a lot of both! (now just praying cracks creep across in the next day or so!)

So needless to say I don't think trying to upgrade a brand new day old dented phone will go over too well at the Sprint store, so my choice is made....I'm sticking with the 6001 and love it!

Good for you, Hobbes. I know you help a lot of new PPC phone owners. Your patience and objectivity are greatly appreciated.

The PPC6601 is a solid device. I just wish it had built-in WiFi so the SD slot can be free for other things, including memory.

Good deal. I also noticed that (some) store staff will bend over backwards by meeting online challenges by both competitors and Sprint's own online content.

I'd try this except I don't have a business account. The other problem is that I never found a store in Chicago with new ones in stock for sale.

That's my point...I DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS ACCOUNT EITHER!!!....
They honored the BUSINESS 20% for PERSONAL ACCOUNT USE...and many others have been able to do the same thing by making a copy of the deal and taking it in.

I mean, don't make such a big issue of the business only aspect, just make a copy and explain to the store that Telesales said the store would/should/could honor the special (which telesales has said!).

Again, it's worth a try, and others have confirmed they have been able to get the 20% discount on their PERSONAL USE Account....I sure did!

Good Luck!

After several calls to different departments (and too many transfers to remember !!) there still is no release of the 6600 nor any information in the system nor the ability to preorder.

I do have a business account and I tried with both the folks in the business and consumer sales departments.

The only glimmer of hope was one agent whose computer showed it was supposed be available the week of Feb 14th but no one else had the same info to confirm it.

The camera on my Treo 600 has come in handy enough times that I have waited for the 6600 vs the 6601, but March-April date is starting to wear my patience.

Yeah, I've found that alot of agents will just tell you whatever to get you happy enough to hang up. I've gotten the run-around so many times.

Anybody else been able to confirm the 14-18th date? I got a 28th of Feb release date from an agent, but I think again, he was just estimating to get me off the phone.

Calvin&Hobbes

Yup. I have 2000 minutes and for $5 a month 1000 of those can be used as roaming. Neither the 650 or the 660x support analog roaming, only digital roaming.

Just be aware when you digital roam, you do not have access to Vision. No Vision, no data, no data, no internet, no internet, no browsing or email. This one HUGE reason I went with the 660x because it supports wifi addon card and the 650 does not.

So... I was going to order myself a 6601 today. I called business solutions to order one. I tried to get the cheapest price possible, but they wouldn't give me any discounts. They said I only qualified for a $75 upgrade rebate because I haven't had my last phone for 18 months. They told me I would have to order the phone through a pcs store to get the rebate. I go down to the pcs store to talk to my friend who also works there. He's says he can't order it. He gives me the number to telesales (like i didn't know) and I go home. I dig up a federal tax id so I can try to get the corporate discount and I call telesales. He tells me the 6601 is out of stock. ugh. I ask about the discount. He says all you need is federal tax id. Ok. I ask about the 6600. He tells me that it will be out on the 20th. He says that information is on a board in their call center. I ask about pricing. He says it's not in the system yet. He says the 6600 will probably be released before they get anymore 6601's.

Cliff Notes:

6601 out of stock
6600 to be released on 20th
Federal Tax Id is all that is needed for discount

Actually, the 650 does support the wifi card sold through palmone. I have researched the 600/650 all the way through and was debating the 6601/6600 but now that none of these allow for analog roam, I will wait until sprint releases there new technology like the SIM card only through manual programming.

Yea, I called today too. It really sucks in my case because my 2032 broke, and I reactivated an old Sanyo 4900 on my account. I've been a customer for two years, and they tell me 'sorry, your phone hasn't been activated 18 months.' Seriously pissed me off. I talked to another woman who told me they could probably give me the 150 rebate.

I'm thinking, they want me to sign a new contract for two years for $150 off the phone? That's insane. I asked the lady why I could cancel my contract, sign a new line and get a better deal on the phone, and she said, 'yes you could certainly do that if you wish.' I mean, ***? A loyal customer with 2 years of paid service gets a worse deal than a new customer? It's not like we're talking 20 or 30 bucks here either. In the case of the 6601, we're talking 130 dollars.

I'm think the odds are if I call them to get the rebate (mail-in too, sheesh. new customers get an instant), they'll want me to sign up for some new plan instead of what I have. I'm thinking it's not worth the $150 rebate to give up my exsisting plan if thats the case, and if they're going to act like this, I'm thinking I don't even want to commit for two more years (though I'll probably stay). I think I'll just buy the damn thing outright.

But, on topic, I was told they were out of stock for the 6601, expecting more in March, and that the 6600 would be out this week, but no pricing was available.

I just got off the phone with the most knowledgable (and nicest) Sprint Rep (in Business Telesales) I have ever spoken to.

She actually knew about the PPC 6600 and that the camera is the only difference from the 6601. She attempted to order it for me but her computer only stated that it was due out "the end of February." She also corrected my belief that my corporate discount plan was a "business account." So much for that extra 20% discount sale :(

She actually offered to put my name and number on their office's "worksheet" to call me and take my order as soon as the phone was released.

Others in this forum have stated that sometimes Reps will say anything to get you of the phone without complaint, but she seemed genuine enough that I will at least wait until Friday (the next rumoured release date :) ) before I call and try to order the phone again
