Quick question if i goto www.sprintpcs.com and login to send a txt msg it cast me correct? i think yes Now if i click the link above Text messaging to send a TXT it free right?
If you send a text message from the web site than it's free as you are not using your phone to send it. however, depending on if you have a text messaging plan, it will cost you or whoever to recieve that message on their phone.

Seems like a big $$ hole if you ask me. I could get the cell number of a person I don't like, use an anon server to access the sprint website and send tons of sms messages to the person. Unless they have unlimited, they are going to be very unhappy with their bill (in addition to being upset over the zillion SMS messages  )

yeah that would be a dirty dirty deed... but sprint and i'm sure the other big carriers provide the option to block sms messages from certain numbers.

I've been watching my usage very closely and I've only been charged for outgoing text. Incoming from another Sprint user has not counted against me.
On Sprint to Sprint text messages, only the sender is charged for the message.

I don't see how that would help when it's coming from the Sprint WEBSITE (what number do you block?). I noticed with some humor that the cell companies themselves were listed on the recent FCC list http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/DomainNameDownload.html
But as the previous poster mentioned, perhaps it counts as Sprint to Sprint, unlike voicemail
I guess that is possible to do, it would be a very dirty trick though.

There are options to block msgs that originate from email and/or the website on a customers manage page.

Since I use about 500+ a month I just pay 5 bucks for unlimited. Saves a lot of time.

If you reaaaally don't like someone sign them up for multiple, daily web alerts from MSN. As far as I know there is no way to stop them...block all the domains you can think of and disable "web alerts" in users settings and they still come. :furious:
ps. if there is a way to stop them short of creating a trouble ticket let me know

Nope. Since they are considered a content provider, their msgs bypass the filters. This is the same with yahoo, AOL, and a few others. A ticket will have the fix agent contact the appropriate content provider and have them removed.

Am I getting over? Will they show up later?
I tried using the website from my treo but there was no send button. Anyone know of a good site that allows Free texting to other Sprint users?
Thanks for all the great info so far!!
i called sprint last week and was told that incoming were always free. i didn't specify if we were talking about incoming from sprint only or other carriers as well though. so i just called again and a (rude) CSR told me that we are charged for incoming and outgoing--no matter the carrier.
i have unlimited, so i'm not worried for myself, but that just doesn't make sense. especially when (and i bet this happens to others as well, it's happened to several of my friends) the system sometimes sends messages to my handset twice when the sender only sent it once. are you supposed to call every time that happens???

Normally, if you are sent the same exact message multiple times, it is because the switch did not receive a confirmation message from the handset, therefore the switch does not think the handset received the message, so it retrys. The billing for msgs happen before the switch, so unless it is duplicated by the sender, it is only billed once.
