i got it! ive been fooling around with bitpim to find a way to get pics and videos form the phone to the pc, so i didnt have to have video and picture mail. well i found out how. im using bitpim 0.7.24.

1. connect your phone and open bitpim
2. go to View -> View Filesystem
3. click on the filesystem tab and let it load.
4. go to either: data->brew->camera or data->brew->download (i think one is for the videos/pics in the camera and the other is for videos/pics saved to phone)
5. there will be a 5 digit number for each pic/video, click on that number
6. for each one, there will be two entries, one is a screen shot of the pic/video for when you view them on the phone, this will be the file around 3302 bytes. the other file (the larger one) is your pic/video.
7. right click that file and hit save
8. the file will load and then ask where you want to save it.

What data cable are you guys using? I am wondering if the cheap USB cables on ebay actually work.

i bought mine from 3Gcables, off of ebay. its the standard oem sanyo cord, that does not charge the phone. it took me a while to get it to work, but i realized i had to type in ##USB# and enable ub mode for it to work. after i did that, its been working like a charm

I have noticed that Bitpim does not have an option to save games. Is there another way of doing this or is a person basicly screwed?

the only thing i cannot figure out how do is put a video or pic onto the phone with the cable. i was thinking about cancelling video and picture mail all together, but i might keep it if i cant figure this out.

can't get it to work...what does ##usb# and enable usb mean? how do you do it?

sitlet

##usb# get you to the usb menu on the phone. there is a couple of options, but 'modem' is the one you want to select. it will allow you to use it as a modem with your computer, and also be able to use bitpim.

btw, has anyone found a way to send pics and videos TO the phone using bitpim?

I know it's not relevant but can I ask what your avatar is? I'm terrified by it.

Uploading with the Focus tool is fine. But uploading from PC to phone with viewing the file system is Bitpim is dangerous. That is why if the phone is not officially supported by Bitpim in general they have writing to the phone/uploading blocked.

Just be careful people. If you upload a file that is corrupted, too big, in the wrong area of the file system, you could render your phone permanently useless.

The focus tool only address specific areas of the phone and will likely give you an error if something is wrong with the file so it should be safe.

Now *downloading* data from the phone to PC is fun! By viewing the file tree then right clicking on a folder or file and choosing “Save as” and likely you will need to rename the file. Thus if you know it is a picture, rename it with a “.jpg” extension. I have been able to download pretty much everything on my A700. It is amazing! I have downloaded hex files and viewed them in a hex editor to read my text messages, etc. Lots of fun!

Does bitpim support downloading your sms messages and call logs? I know it does it for some phones, but not my 5500..

You have to experiment, I dont have a 5500 to try it with. Go to the file tree in Bitpim and open all directories and try and right clicking every file and "Save as". Logically you can figure most of those files are some type of text so I rename them with a ".txt" and open with notepad or WordPad. It may look a little ugly but you can see certain stuff :headbang2
