hey all,
i was fiddling around with the samsung a760 and i noticed it had an option for voice sms in the messaging menu. what exactly is this and how much does it cost? seems kind of interesting...i sent myself a test message and when i received it, it told me to dial this 800# to retrieve the message.

the standard SMS rates apply, if you have UL SMS, no extra charge
if you send it to another voice sms phone, it will dl and play the msg instead of have to call in to get it.

SMS voicemail messages will only work with SMS voicemail enabled phones, ie... as of right now your phone model only.

not true... you can send it to any sms enabled phone (any carrier even) just that when you send it to some phone that doesn't have this ability the get a text message with a 800# to call and get the message that way.

Technically, most phone can already do that.......that is, if you are sending a picture. In fact, they introduced that with the 8100....if I remember right.

So, it's just like sending someone a voicemail?

Um, why not just call them?

This sounds like an incredibly stupid idea. This is what voicemail is for.

chalk another victory for samsung being "inovative" and falling on their face

I think its a really good idea, IF you don't have to call some stupid phone # to get the msg...

otherwise you can just use voicemail and hit option #2 and send a msg same way.

if you can just 'listen' to the voice SMS message right on the phone, (say it downloads it into memory) then that's a great idea.

My treo 650 can send voice SMS messages for free. Simply downloaded a free PalmOne application from the palm one site. I can send a message to any phone # in the country (i think world wide too, but never tried it). The recieving phone # gets a call within seconds reading my sent message. Its a trip. I can send SMS's to multiple #'s and email addresses at the same time. Pretty tight. Anyone else using this on their Treo 650.

that sounds kinda silly if it rings on their end... what's the point? you may as well just call them yourself...

now it it notified them that they had a voice sms, and they just hit a button and could listen to it instantly, then it would be good.

If you have to 'connect' to anything, it's a waste... they have voicemail for a reason...

press 1+talk+2+number then talk and hang up

probably faster than using regular sms.
