When editing your ring tones how do you take out the bass in the song? As far as the programs needed that is not an issue I can trial the program or just buy it. I just need to know what programs I can use and what to do to take out the bass because when you convert it to mono and a lower bitrate it distorts like a mother... Anyone know how to do this?

audacity ... free ... it can trim, clip, clean, modulate, rotate, angulate, . seriously ... it has 28 effects (High and low pass limitors), Fade in/out, equalize ... shoot, it'll even "wahwah" ... did I mention it was free ... can export as wav, MP3 ... IMHO ... awsome audio tool! and free.

details ... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ even a version for Mac OSX.

Well with any of these programs what is your overall goal? Here's what I mean:

When you take an mp3 or your 8.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono version of the file. You open the program you want to use, and what do you actually want to do to have it clear? I've been trying to do a couple of songs and have gotten to a pretty good quality except for a wishy washy type sound in the back. it actualy sounds like mini waves at the ocean or something of the sort... What is this i'm hearing? And also how do i remove it? and with what filter or anything..

Basically what i've tryed it dropping the mids and lows all the way out and keeping the treble about mid way. I normalize it and then I'm done. Can everyone please post what they do in a general situation or example.

Man I tried Sony Sound Forge, and honestly I think it's a waste. I get awesome output from my Winamp+SoundRecorder combo, and it's so easy too. I messed around with SSF for a while, and all that noise editing doesn't do any good. It just seemed like a huge hassle for little to no difference at all. Winamp+SoundRecorder gets the job done.

I'm just glad I got SSF without spending a penny. That would've been something else.

I agree with "Flip" .. it's not a matter of clarity ... if you're making a qcp, the software compresses the dog hocky out of it ... there's not alot you can do. I've listened to alot of tracks ... and made 70-80 qcp's ... not alot but I learned the songs that have heavy drums, bass, cymbols all crashing at the same time seem to be the hardest to get clean ...

I do believe that "flip's" got it down better than most I've listened to when it comes to cleaner sounding tracks.

My purpose for using audacity is it has great fade in/out capabilities, etc. and makes the MP4/MP3's alot more attractive to listen to ... not necessarily get better sounding qcp's ... :D

Heh, thanks. I tried out audacity out of curiosity and it's a pretty nice little program with cool effects. Only thing is when I try to knock out the bass, it does work, but it replaces it with this weird hissing sound that I can't get around.

It is much easier to work with than SoundForge, IMO, though. And I'll admit, I was most impressed by the "wahwah" effect. :D

there is a program i found online called "Wavepad" which offers a frequency filter which kills any sound below a selected frequency...I use it to make ringers for my coworkers 8200 since it has a weak speaker for some ringers

Well i don't listen to rap so that's an issue. There are tons of mids and highs that also distort... Anyone else?
