Is the 680 a better than the 740. I bought the 680 yesterday and i took it back today because the ear piece was muffled. I traded it for the 740 so far i like it.

The 680 has a TFT display. The 740 is essentially a budget phone with a camera.

IMO the 740 is better because I haven't experienced the unbearable echo of the 680. It's basically the same otherwise, but you give up the video capabilities. All things considered, I'd get the 740 over the 680.

I was just talking on my 740 and i heard an echo. I also had an echo on my a700 what causes that. Is it the phone?

Probably not specifically. It's just a Samsung echo. My mom gets it on her A700 at times.

A740 has the new 'roaming' setting instead of the outdated 'analog' setting that the A680 uses. The A740 also has a better and more reliable browser. Those are two big reasons to go with the A740.

The echo happens on all Sprint phones at some point - I believe its a network issue and not a phone issue.

It even happens some times on my old moto. A coupld my friends have experienced it too on the low end Samsung, a Kyocera and a Sanyo.

It most certainly does NOT happen with my Toshiba Vm4050.

I'm on the phone a LOT and I've never experienced any echo either, not even on the old N-400.

I'm inclined to think it's a network thing. The only time I get an echo is when I call in an order to my favorite pizza place, and I've noticed that when I'm in the pizza place my phone usually goes to digital roam, or when driving by the phone beeps and beeps right back to indicate leaving Sprint service momentarily. A little dead zone in that block. Otherwise I never get an echo.

It is a phone issue- I noticed it especially in the 8920. The Vm4050 has -NO- echo whatsoever.

Sometimes the echoes are a network issue and other times it's the phone. I remember having echoes problems on my old Qualcomm 2760 and have also noticed them on the A680. The Sanyo 4900 and 4920 actually had firmware revisions to reduce the echo problem so I know it can be the phone.

yeah, I've had a lot of echos on the 8920, I dont have any with the 740 that I know about. I remember the ol' N400 having a lot of echos from 2 years ago and the 8100 had some, but the 740 so far has the best audio fidelity that I've heard on any of my phones....

....the camera does suck balls when it comes to resolution and quality (average), but the colors come out better than the megapixel phones...I suppose that's the draw

I know its a network thing and not a phone thing because it doesn't happen all the time, but randomly on some calls once every few months. And I have noticed this happening not just around NJ, but also a few times in NYc, DC and california - Hey Ive had my Moto a while now and also travel a bit :p

I've also seen this happen at times on GSM networks on Nokia and Sony phones so Im guessing its something to do with cellular network technology.

I have both the a680 and a740 and heres my opinion,

A-680 is supposed to have the better screen, though i think the a740s is just as bright and clear if not a little better. It does have a lag though so maybe thats one reason it doesn't utilize a video mode?

The a740 seems to have alittle clearer earpiece then the a680 but it drops "in and out" more. Its hard to explain but its like on a 1-10 scale on reception/sound quality the a680 is at a constant 7 scale for example, while the a740 is mostly at a 8-9 but drops down to 3 every few seconds. Like an up and down wave as opposed to a constant line for example.

The A740 has the very nice "roaming only mod". Also has slightly louder and clearer ringers.

The A680 is smaller and looks a little nicer with the metal accents IMO.

I've seen a ton of post about a740 echoes and comparitively few about echoes on the a680 though I havent noticed it on either.

I've had it happen to me 3 times in a row lastnight talking to 3 different people, whats up with that. Maybe I should just stick with my a700 did'nt have an acho problem with that.
