Ok gang, I have a newbie question...

Can someone tell me the different between the PPC-6600 and 6601? I've been reading this forum for a few days to get educated on the SmartPhones offered by Sprint. I'm leaning towards the 6601 but want to make sure I understand the differences before I spend my hard earned $$$.

Thanks,
Mike

PPC6600 has a camera, but not the PPC6601. That's the only phyical difference I know of.

Since the 6600 is on back order till the end of February there are speculations that they maybe working out some bugs, but I have not seen any thing to confirm that by Audiovox/UTTtarcom

the lackof the camera is the only difference.

How come when I post from my phone I don't see this "Wirelessly posted" message? Is that something you do to make it appear?

my guess is we are posting from the wap version of su - your browser will support the full blown html web site

Yes, I'm using http://www.sprintusers.com/forum both on my laptop as well as my PPC6601. I tried http://wap.sprintusers.com/wap but I can't get to this forum.

I talked to sprint and they said the wap vision homepage doesn't support the PPC6601. That's interesting. I can use http://pda.sprintpcs.com/palmportal, but there's no access to this forum except through the full web site. And Sprint wants to charge PPC users an additional $15/month? Suddenly, Verizon is starting to look more attractive,...,again.

that's good info - i was wondering about the 660x explorer browser - does the 650's bromrer support the html version or wap version? my guess is you could run another browser if you wanted to acess sites that are wap formatted

Well keep in mind, the PPC series phone has IE or miniIE for smartphones/pocketpc so really wap based websites don't work as well as true html...

could be a death knell for wap if these devices can support full html instead of wap cards

Pocket IE browser supports both full HTML and wap. I browse wap enabled web sites quite a bit (PDA portal, Yahoo, google, mapquest, etc) but I'm unable to access wap vision to see my account, usage, etc. I can use http://sprintpcs.com to do it, but I have to scroll a lot on that 3.5 screen.

I am posting this from my Clie, using NetFront 3.0

I can access the "Treo" WAP version, and the WAP links.....but not the forum link. So, I used the regular link and viola! But, as far as some site go....they consider this a regular browser.

P:S I am using WiFi, not the Bluetooth :(

Yes, and that's why the system does not see you as a wireless user, but rather a PC user, and the "posted wirelessly" message does not show on your posts as well.
