Recent problems sending out emails via Vision from my Palmphone

Recently, perhaps starting a few months ago, I started having problems sending out emails on my i500. Using Eudora on the i500, I used to send out emails via my own SMTP server and everything was fine. Now, when I try to send out an email, Eudora just hangs trying to negotiate with my SMTP server and eventually times out. Over on my server end, I see that my SMTP process (sendmail) is just waiting for the i500 to send the right thing and eventually this error is posted in the mail log:

Jan 27 13:11:32 smtp sendmail[10734]: NOQUEUE: [70.4.88.58] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

If I instead tell Eudora to send via smtp.sprintpcs.com then it does work.

Has Sprint changed something recently (few months) in Vision, perhaps blocking port 25 (SMTP) to go only to smtp.sprintpcs.com ?

Is anyone else still able to use their own SMTP server for sending emails instead of smtp.sprintpcs.com ?

This is not quite a reply...

It reminds me of what SBC is doing....blocking port 25 for all except SBC Yahoo smtp.

well, it isn't quite a total block of port 25 because my SMTP server *does* get a connection set up, so it'd have to be something somewhat more complicated than a simple port 25 block...

I'd like to at least hear from anyone who is still able to use an SMTP server other than smtp.sprintpcs.com to send out emails on their Vision phone.

Well further experimenting is gradually convincing me that indeed Sprint has partially blocked port 25 on Vision, restricting it to only smtp.sprintpcs.com.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but this is now what I believe to be the case (boohoo)...

Since no one has said anything, I can only presume that ALL you Vision users out there, both phone-only and tethered, only send out emails through smtp.sprintpcs.com OR use webmail sites (Yahoo, Hotmail, Netscape, SprintPCS, etc) to send out emails.

I cant send emails from my computer through smtp.sprintpcs.com either. It just stopped workking a few days ago.
