ive had both and i personally like the a740 better. the audiovox has a megapixel camera so it has a better camera than the a740. i think the a740 is sleeker looking.

Everything about the 8920 seems fine. It's not very generous for internal memory, but it should compare favorably with the VGA1K across the board.
Plus... it's an AUDIO VOX PHONE.

it's an AUDIO VOX PHONE.
Oh god, not this again.
The 8920 seems like an okay phone. I haven't had much luck with Audiovox phones in the past, but thise one seems alright.

how are they for memory? His vga1000 is not good with reqwireless webviewer. He can not go to many forums I can with my 8200 because it says out of memory and just stops.
are these phones better then that for hte memory reqwireless webviewer would use?

are you browsing the PC version of the forums with the reqwireless webviewer? I mean, thats all well and good, but wouldnt just using the wap version of the sites, if they are offered, be better?

Do a search on here for 8920. There are a number of people who have had good, and some like me, who have had very bad, experiences that are worth reading about.

Well, I have the 8920 and I really like the phone. It has fair game support (new games from might and magic to Prince of Persia: WW, or my fav...pac-man). The pictures are pretty much the best that cameraphones can do for now (but not for long), the memory is fairly good. However, the pictures and games/screensavers/ringers etc. share the same memory, so if you load on the games and screen savers you won't be taking a lot of pictures (or vice-versa), however, I only use the memory for pictures and that's good enough for me. Also, if you're going to be uploading pictures, and you better be or you're wasting that damn camera you better be in fair to good signal areas because the pictures go upwards of 500k in size each and you're phone may have a c25 error if you don't have a strong enough signal to upload the large pictures. I find the reception to be pretty good so far, sprint doesn't have great reception in my area as a whole, but it's better than my old 8100 by quite a bit. The speakerphone is a little low for my tastes, not as loud as my N400 from 2 years ago, but it's passable. The earpiece is good, though. Here are some good pictures for you to see what I mean about the camera...note: these pics are not the full 500k pictures, these are roughly 30k thumbnails, the real pictures are too big to fit on the forum, and are roughly 10 times or more as large and detailed.

If you want a camera that is also a phone, then try the 8920...but since I and others on here have had to go thru 2 or 3 8920's within 2 or 3 weeks of getting them (thats three different 8920's in my possession in just over 1 1/2 months), then feel free. There are many other phones out there, including a few new ones with cameras that work just as well.
If you dont care about the camera, then buy something else. This one is a piece of cr*p.

umm....yeah...I just went through my second 8920...replaced it with the trendy little A740. If you're REALLY careful with you phones. For example if you have a little carrying case for your phone (body glove seems to work best) and aren't really an outdoor-sy kind of person, who likes a phone with a camera that can in most light conditions take pictures as with a quality on par with some digtital cameras than the 8920 is a sure thing...however...if you take your phone outside of your safe home with padded walls...than maybe you should look elsewhere...I was probably one of the biggest fans of the 8920 and I didn't think that I would see any of the problems that a lot of other people have been talking about...until they problems started to happen. My software completely crapped out and I started have odd digits show up while dialing...than my second phone stopped turning on, I mean c'mon you sign up with wireless carriers and they say taht they won't give you a break for a new phone for 18 or 24 months...but if phones are manufactured to have a half life of like 2 weeks...than after a month you're pretty much screwed out of your $300 "investment".
I'd say that in terms of build quality and reliabilty the 8920 lags behind most phones, the camera is nice...but do you really want to buy a phone just for the camera? or a car just for the head lights? Same difference. My advice to you. wait for a better phone with a megapixel camera, and they'll be here soon enough...with more megepixels, I only hope that more megapixels doesn't translate to more problems. I like my new a740, it's compact and has a great interface...plus the sound quality is better than the 8920.

Well I will be honest in regards to the 8920! IMAO the phone is a very good solid phone well at least it has been for me and now my girlfriend. She loves the phone and of course uses it daily. Neither of us have had any issues with it and it's the same phone I purchased the day they came out. I really enjoyed using it and then turned it over to my girlfriend I purchased an A700 had that for a couple of weeks and then got the 7400 so far I have been pleased with all my phones but the 8920 is a nice phone and it has a good camera!

yeah the camera is great, and lots of people like the look of the phone, I did as well, however the menu's just weren't that good and I suppose I just had a lot of "bad luck with it"...however, I loved it while I had it, but I'm glad that all the bad luck I had happened just before my trial period ended.
