Concerned with privacy and not wanting everyone I send photos to to know my Sprint PCS phone number, I changed the Picture Mail From Address under "Account Info" in PictureMail to my personal e-mail address. When I would send photos from my phone, I would send it to the recipient's e-mail address and they would receive the Picture share, but without any personal information except for my e-mail address.
I just noticed that Sprint started putting your phone number in PictureMail messages so when I send a photo it says "You've received a picture share from: 404668XXXX." I even logged in and added my Name under "Account Info," and that hasn't changed it.
Does anyone know how long PictureMail messages to e-mail addresses have been sending with your phone number? Is there a way to stop your phone number from appearing?
Thanks in advance,

Not sure if it's the same thing, but Sprint changed the message for receiving notifications a loooong time ago... not sure when though. Maybe not a whole year, but definitely up around there.

Mine has always displayed the phone #... the only time it showed anything else (for me) was if i choose to reply comments in the actual picturemail... i think its a legal related issue.

I can't imagine it being a legal related issue, especially since it did not display the phone number for so long. (And keep in mind, I realize that you probably have it sent from 2025551212@messaging.sprintpcs.com, but I changed that from address but it still displays my number.)
My only reprieve is the fact that I have a Treo so I could use the built-in e-mail client to send photos from my e-mail address as an attachment; but if I didn't have a Treo, I would be very angry right now.

I also think it is a legal issue. For obvious reason, the messages have to be able to be traced. There are ways around that, like using the sprint page or a third party app.
Besides....If your close enough to send a picture to someone, I wouldnt think the privacy of your telephone number would be an issue.

If it's a legal issue, Sprint should retain a way in which they could trace which account the photo came from instead of broadcasting the number to everyone.
In the real estate industry, if I wanted to take a photo of property and send it to a client, I couldn't do that without offering up my personal Sprint PCS number.
If I was an insurance adjuster, I couldn't use the Treo to grab a quick shot to outline the severity of damage and send it to whomever without offering up my personal Sprint PCS number.
I'm sure I could sit here and think of 1,000 other reasons why I would want to be able to share photos without giving up my Sprint number.
If it's a legal issue, then why when you send photos from a Kodak/Ofoto account does it not display your phone number? Or when you post photos on Yahoo! Photos or Webshots, does it not display your phone number?
They should at least provide an option where you can select if you do or do not wish your phone number to be displayed.

Which is why people in those industries have personal phones, and phones they use for business.
I think the right to privacy here leans more towards the receivers right to know who is sending them communications. Seeing as how the receiver doesnt have a choice as to receiving the communications, but the sender does. It would not make sense to hide the info of the person sending, as it is their choice to send. Think of how many annoying communications would be sent if it was so easy to hide your number?
And I argue the point that sprint broadcasts your number to everyone....they broadcast your number to the person you willingly sent communication to. BIG difference. Broadcasting it to everybody WOULD violate your right to privacy.

True, but your argument would ask that with any e-mail you send, your personal phone number is included with that e-mail.
I'm not asking Sprint to protect my privacy and send an "anonymous" message. You have three choices with PictureMail, send from your#@messaging.sprintpcs.com, visionusername@sprintpcs.com, and personal e-mail address (which you have to verify).
If someone can send me an e-mail without my permission simply by knowing my e-mail address and me being able to trace (or attempt to trace) that message using the sender's from address or any IP and header information; then I should be able to send a PictureMail to someone without having to have my personal number displayed as well.

Considering your phone is the means by which you take the pic, I don't think it is unreasonable for the phone number to be included.
Course, thats just my opinion and not worth much.

No, I agree. It's not unreasonable. But I would like the option, that's all. :-)
