i actually just had the same problem with my phone for the past few weeks. i thought i was never gonna be able to get it to work, until today i stumbled upon a thread here. on the main screen on the phone type in ##USB#, then click modem. this will enable the phone to communicate with the computer. i dont know why you have to do this to get it to work. if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

What do you set it as to use it in bitpim?

If you are using the latest version there is an option for the MM-7400... its not it the somewhat logical order because it begins with MM and not PM

type ##USB# and select modem. i dont know why, but by selecting modem, it seems to "activate" the usb mode on the phone. once you do that, your computer should recognize it. i just used it with bitpim, and it worked fine after i selected "modem".

I already did that as that was the first reply you gave me. I doesn't work. Maybe I need a new driver. Bitpim tells me that the mode is wrong and CommsWrongPort: MM-7400: The port you are using is echoing data back, and is not valid for Brew data. Most likely you have selected the modem interface when you should be using the diagnostic interface.
