Today, I got a call from a decidedly strange phone number. The connection was short, and I barely would have had time to answer, had I have. The number was 340-2600, no Area Code. Now I'm fairly familiar with strange numbers, including "UNKNOWN", "PRIVATE", "000-000-0000" and the large corporation favorite, "Area Code-000-000". I know these belong to telemarketers, and other people, but I've never seen a phone number without it's area code, unless the number is in my phone book, without an area code, and that was on comparatively primitive phones. (Even though I'm using an A460...) I checked the number with all the area codes in my area, and it's fairly popular, so my first reaction, that of seeing "2600" on my screen, may not be warranted. But maybe someone was war-dialing for numbers, and that's why it was such a short connection. Anyways, has anyone heard of this or know why there wouldn't have been an area code included? Also, after making sure I had really recieved the call, I dialed *2, but could not for the life of me get anyone on the line, always getting cut off during transfer. Strange.
Any info would be appreciated!

It could have been a phone card used from a local pay phone?
