I am currently a verizon user and have great coverage and voice quality. I have never gone without a signal since switching to them. I am now considering Sprint to get a Treo 650. Has anyone else moved from verizon to Sprint lately that can give me a head to head review of the two providers? I am in the central florida area if any one can talk about the service in this area.

Sprint's coverage is usually behind Verizon's, but is equal in many areas. Your best bet is to look at a coverage map and first determine if it meets your needs. Your next plan of action is to try the phone out for 14 days, and see if the coverage is acceptable for you. Finally, I'd say safeguard your new investment by getting a No-roaming plan, which allows you to use Verizon's network for voice calls at no additional charge if there is no Sprint service in the area (providing you don't use Verizon's network more than Sprint's.)

Hi there! I had Verizon about two years ago, and coverage with that company in my travels (including home and work) was lacking. In addition, their data and regular voice plans are expensive compared to Sprint's. When I moved to SPCS, I discovered that I had excellent coverage, especially very good voice clarity, in areas I fly to on a daily basis. I'm happy with their service that I ditched my regular landline in favor of my mobile. I also have the no-roaming option in my plan, just in case. Most times, though, I haven't seen my phones bounce to roam. I do inflight work and I can honestly say that Sprint PCS delivers quality, nationwide service--voice- and data-wise--in my experience.

I had Sprint for three years and some change...switched recently, but that's another story.
Anyway, my husband has used Verizon for nearly 2 years now.
In the Seattle area (sorry I can't comment on Florida) the coverage in the places I work and travel, were totally equivalent. During the past three-six months, though, it seems to have gone downhill. My husband drops me while driving on Interstate 405. My in-law's drop me in and around their house, which used to be very well covered. Hubby, his parents and his brother, all have Verizon and they all have different phones, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Anyway, the things that stick out to me when it comes to comparing Verizon to Sprint is that I have been very unimpressed with Verizon's CS reps at corporate stores. I stood in a store about six months ago for 10 minutes playing with the v710 and no one asked me if I wanted help.

Sprint reps, I think, are much better (despite what people may say). Patience and knowledge are vital when dealing with them.

I lived in Vegas when I first signed up and have traveled up and down I-5 on the West Coast and east-west on I-90 and coverage was great. The only place I ever lost signal was on Mount Rainier.

I think Sprint, particularly for the average individual, is a very good value. It's easier to get content to your phone, it's also cheaper and using wireless web doesn't chew up your anytime minutes. Sprint has, IMO, a superior phone lineup and much better implementation of walkie-talkie communication.

It would be wise to test out the service first. You can do a trial with a seperate phone then port your number if you feel coverage is sufficient. I think that if you switch, you will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm going to try and persuade my in-law's to switch from Verizon in the next couple weeks. They just aren't getting their money's worth.

Good luck with your choice...be sure to read up on the Treo 650, too. Especially if you currently use a Treo 600.

That's a good point. The Sprint store I went to to buy my phones had super-awesome reps. Not only did they do an excellent job displaying the network's capabilities, but they're always friendly to deal with.

Your BEST bet is to find others in your area with sprint and get their thought on reception/clarity. The maps... They're nice to know WHERE there isn't coverage, but not where there IS coverage. A friend with Verizon, his service sucks in our area, but mine is great. The vice also goes for other areas. In all, the end, what keeps me with Sprint over Verizon is m-2-m. The service is just that equal where I travel to and live.
