I thought the 7400 was 2-way SMS capable; Phone Scoop says it is. I can send messages fine, but when I receive one, I get a link to short mail! I called Sprint customer disservice and they told me the phone is only able to send SMS. What gives?

Mine both sends and receives. Maybe its your handset.

Sounds like your SMS provisioning did not update. This has been happening as of late due to some code changes that they have not fixed yet. I am assuming that you had a shortmail phone before this one.
This can be fixed by reprovisioning your vision services as that will send an update order for your msg routing and correct it. You need to call back, ask for a vision tech, and ask them to reprovision your IP basic on your acct (vision services).

Thanks for the help! I will try that. Yes, I did have a shortmail phone before I got the 7400. I just realized the only people trying to send me SMS messages have VZW. Could that be part of the problem?

Would doing this cause one to lose their grandfathered Vision (with unlimited text messaging, etc.)?

Someone from Sprint just called my phone a little bit ago, and said they were going to do the provisioning........and that the SMS should work within 4 hours. Wee :)
