MODs online or invisible?

Seems to me either there are never MODs on the board or they are logged in as invisible. That sucks. I think all MODs should have to be seen when they are on the board. Funny, this feels a little de ja vu.......like I had this conversation before........

probably doesnt have to be, but it would be nice to know when they are around. if a user has a questions, they know exactly who they can go to at that time. if they are all logged in as invisible, you cant do that.

when i was a mod, i didnt do the invisible thing, and occassionally i would get a pm or AIM message with a question.

Well, at the other end of the spectrum...I am a mod on another wireless site. I am not invisible, but I have made all my contact methods, with the exception of PM's, invisible to everyone else. It would have been nice ot be invisible a few times...it might have saved some issues with certain banned users coming back and making new names and more or less harassing me because they didn't like something another mod had done (and decided to blame me).

Yes, I am there to help, but I am not there to be bombarded with IM's on AIM or Yahoo!. I have had to set my settings to reject anyone not already on my buddy list. I think it is reasonable to expect moderators/admins to check their PM's daily when they have access to their computer. I can't imagine what issue is so pressing on a message board that someone couldn't wait that long to get an answer from a moderator.

This is directed towards me as Mod because I am always on & invisible.

I have SU up and running most of the day. I check the Forum constantly, sometimes more than 3 or 4 times in an hour.

If someone needs to get a hold of me they can.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Our moderators are always available via PM and log in many times during the day. I like the mods to try and not be invisible most of the time but if they want to, that's their personal choice.

If there are any problems on the forum, users can report the appropriate posts. At that point an email is dispatched to each moderator as an alert to jump on the forum and check it out. I actually PREFER that everybody use the 'Report Post' feature in lieu of sending a MOD PMs because their reported post alert will go to ALL mods at once.

1. It is not directed towards you specifically at all. Last I checked there were more MODs than you, relax.
2. As I recall, this was discussed before and it never seemed to happen.
3. As a member I do have a right to ask why the MODs are all invisible.
