Since their are many new game consoles coming out soon, which one are you most anticpated about about and look forward to seeing? Personally I am most ancticiapted to see the Xbox 2 (going title) The Ps3 sounds great too and has already posted some specs such as the "cell processor" show at E3' 2004. Ps3 is expected to blow out Xbox 2 in sales but will Microsoft somehow make some changes to outdue with Ps3? Anyone hear anything about a Gamecube 2 by the way?

I've heard rumor that the 2nd verison of the Xbox will come loaded with Halo 2.5. Apparently Halo 2 completely maxed out the original Xbox and 2.5 will include the features that will couldn't be used.

Yep, one that will be the cheapest without a harddrive, a second that sounds like it will be similar to the current model, and a thrid that will be upgraded and have more PC like functions (internet, email,...)

Blech. Worst move ever. I hope they're not serious.

They need to concentrate more on making sure that the XBOX 2 plays XBOX 1 games.

I would think of course Xbox 2 would play its old (current) xbox games, because for the fact the people would want to play old great games such as the original halo and halo 2 . Bungie (makers of halo) would more than likely argue the fact that the new xbox would'nt be able too. Plus im sure the xbox 2 will use cd's or small ones, personally i think they should just keep the cd style they have now (regular). I have heard also too that they will have three different versions of the xbox. I would probably get the second version with a hardrive. I would probably not get the third version with a the pc capabilities simply because thats what a computer is used for. I would just use the xbox for strictly gaming especially on (Xbox Live and halo). It would be kinda cool though if Microsoft would put a cd burner in the new xbox.

XBOX 2 could potentially NOT be able to play XBOX 1 games because they are dropping the Intel CPU and NVIDIA graphics.

That a great fact 640k i never thought about that. Do you think their would be a way behind that so that the new Xbox would be able to play the old games? Oh yea im not a big Intel fan I prefer AMD over Intel, but if u truely want the best and know it runs at what it says I would have to go with Intel.......

640k
01-13-2005, 11:07 AM
But thats just it.. it has nothing to do with AMD over Intel.. last thing I read was they were going with a similar CPU as the GameCube.. Some sort of IBM MIPs processor. Its cheaper and faster and geared toward this very thing. So because the processor isn't based off of the x86 architechure, the games won't be compatible. If they build an emulator, they'll run like dirt.

The problem here is MSoft built a PC first, and then stripped it and locked it down. Now they're trying to build a game system and make it into a PC.

Thanks for the info 640k thats some stuff i didnt know or give so thought.....Kinda crazy question/answer, What if Microsoft put a dual cpu motherboard into the new xbox and their was a software u could load that could run at the old xbox speed and the intended new one, or one or the other....Like u said the other down fall is the graphics, could their be two graphics cards?

You're talking hundreds of dollars in added expense that MS doesn't want to imply because they'll bite the cost, in addition to not being practical.

Xbox 2, code-named Xenon, is expected to use a triple-core 3.5GHz processor (or a faster IBM PowerPC chip) along with ATi's graphics adapter with 500MHz (or faster) clock speeds and 256MB on-board memory. The upcoming gaming console will use a customized version of Microsoft's NT operating system along with Direct 3D version 9.0.

Thanks for the website link.....also how much do u think the xbox 2 will cost? Yes I know there is many rumors that it will $300 and over but what do u think? Personally with all the specifications I read and its equiped with a 3.5ghz processor, 256 graphics card, im sure this will cost $400 and possibly more.....Also is this new board they are using 64 bit?......And if xbox 2 will more than likely possibly not use old xbox games, how is the Ps3 going to use its technology? Will it's old game be playable even with the speeds of the "cell processor" and graphics card (probably about 256)?

The big thing with consoles these days is selling the hardware for cheap and upping the prices of the games. All of the money comes from games. XBOX will debut for the same or slightly more than a PS3 will.

The PSP is going to sell for about $200 in the US. Sony is taking a major hit on the price of that, but they're confident enough that the system will bring enough people in to buy games, etc. for it.

I cant agree with you anymore, you are exactly right they do make there money through the games, same goes for phones and plans........One thing is if the Psp games are $49.99 imagine the Ps3 and Xbox 2 games prices?...$$$$$

I don't think game prices are going to change too too much. XBOX and PS games have consistently risen higher. I would think the most expensive PSP game will be $50 while the most expensive PS3 and XBOX 2 game will be $70+. We're already seeing games cost as much as $60-$65 each.

Hell, Earthworm Jim 2 was $50 when it came out and the price stayed high the entire time SEGA was popular.

Hahaha yea, Sega was tight....Hey but no game and i mean no game I have ever seen was most expensive as Steel Battallion for the Xbox it cost $200. It is probably way cheaper now from what i seen recently the game itself is $25 used.....The game features a 40 button control and pedals, kinda like a Mech Assault simulator........

I'm pretty confident PS3 will own too - PS just needs more programmers. Their Emotion Engine is phenominal... its just no one really understands how to use it.

I think Ps3 is great and phenomenal machine but really the reason why i have any xbox right now is because it's faster, better graphics, and the best reason of all Xbox Live Halo 2. Not many people like the game and say "it sucks","killzone is better", that a bunch of bs.....But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.....so im hoping Xbox 2 will be better than Ps3, but hey they are both great consoles.

I think the XBOX does display superior graphics to the PS, but like I said, its mostly because programmers have difficulty with the Emotion Engine and haven't fully unlocked its potential. Do a search for Sony Emotion Engine and you'll see.

In addition, PS has more vendors that support their product vs. MS. Don't get me wrong, XBOX rules, and I have one (not a PS) and I love it... but PS is really just coming out on top in the war.

I'd like to see MS revamp one of their stupid Portable Media Players to compete with the PSP. THAT would be amazing!!

Master-Tech
01-13-2005, 02:41 PM
Yeah I agree 640k Ps does have alot more vendors, than the xbox.....It would be cool if Microsoft somehow made a "Xbox Portable" that would compete with the Psp.....Im sure Microsoft would consider doing so if they haven't already.......

GT4 is great - I'm still a fan of Colin McRae and pretty much all of Codemaster's Racing games. IMO Colin McRae has a much more realistic feel to driving. It also gives you consequences if you beat the crap out of your car.

Well all this talk about the XBox 2 has almost made me forget about what I was going to respond about. I was going to say that there is no such thing as a Gamecube two. The next nintendo console will be called the Revolution

well it will be hard enough for them to get a good hold on the gaming market just making games now that they can't do many sports games since EA took over everything. Much less get a console together. would be cool though

there's no doubt about it: The PS3 will 0wn all! Sony has revolutionized the gaming industry on so many levels (well, maybe not online, but c'mon!)
The only reason xbox does so well is Halo.

Also PSP 0wns GB DS, no doubt about it.

MT - several things here...

1. The PSP is $250 in the states and $185 in JP because Sony has decided to ONLY release the PSP with the value package. There is no news yet on wether they will release the console separately, but if they did, it will cost about $185.

2. There are rumors spreading around that multi-coloed PSPs might one day be available. I've already seen several pre-release versions, including Jax, GT4 and a few others. Sony might be waiting to release the console by itself until they can either recoup a little loss on the hardware, get a solid footprint in the US or finalize plans to release special edition PSPs before they come out with the PSP by itself.

3. If anyone wants this thing when it comes out - you should order one now. So far I know of two places you can get one. EBGames is selilng a starter bundle that comes with 3 games and a $30 accessory for $399. Not a bad price, but its difficult putting that much money down at once for something you've never seen. Costco is also taking preorders in three different types of packages. They range from $299-$499.
