View Full Version : Porting a disconnected number?

Has anyone tried that? I would like to port my landline, but it currently has DSL so I have to wait until it gets de-provisioned on the 14th. That will leave me two weeks before my lease expires. Obviously, I won't be leaving the line "on" after I move... I don't think that will be enough time, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas?

Pretty sure you line has to be active to port the number. That is why Sprint will cancel your service when a port is in progress. If you ask Sprint to port a number that is not active they will not be able to do it. The number needs to be active to port it, as Sprint has to request the active number to iniate a port.

Fubar101 is right, your number must be currently active in order to be ported over to another carrier. I had a contract with T-Mobile that just recently ended and cancelled my service after the contract was over before porting over my number and it wouldn't work on Sprint's end. So I had to call T-Mobile back to re-activate my number and service which means I would get billed for the few days that the number was active on T-Mobile's end. But as soon as the port was done, T-Mobile would cancel my service. So lesson learned was if I am ever going to change carriers again, hopefully not though because Sprint rocks, don't cancel your service until the port is complete.

I work for a cell company that isn't sprint, but i have a sprint phone.. w00t...

ok well anyways. if you cancel your service, you give up your 'ownership' of your number. it goes back in the pool and will get redistributed to some other dude down the line. also make sure you are out of contract before you port or you could land some hefty ETF fees as porting cancelles your service with your old provider.
