I was using a 7300 when I bought my 7400. I sold the 7300 later that week on eBaY, and after not recieving the phone for two weeks, the buyer filed a Paypal buyer complaint against me. I had no choice but to refund the money to her because idiot me forgot to put tracking on the package.
I have called Sprint to make sure nobody has activated the phone, it's still clean, and have talked to a couple of reps about reporting the phone lost/stolen. They have told me that in order to do that the phone must be on my account, and that they can do the ESN swap to put that phone on my account. Then I start thinking....
Would I be able to do a lockline claim on that phone while it is "active" on my account. I know the premise constitutes fraud, I've never defrauded lockline in the past, but I really lost my phone here. I haven't recieved money for the phone now, I am still the owner and now it is apparently lost for real. I plan on waiting a couple more weeks just in case the phone does show up, I have filed a form 1090? at the post office already for lost mail.
Anyone who has any opinions/advice on how to report the phone lost by doing that ESN swap and still being able to call lockline and get it replaced please post. I really don't want to do this, not trying to make extra money or rip anybody off, I am hoping to break even by selling the replacement 7300. Thanks in advance. :)
Well, I don't know if it is fraud since it is technically lost. Good question. Did you insure it with who you sent it with?

Nope no insurance on the package either.

Well, who did you ship with? You could have them put a trace on it.

USPS Priority Mail, and how would I go about doing that?

You would need to go to the Post Office and explain to them what happened. Have your address and the shipees address ready for them as well as a description of the package. USPS is the devil. I always use UPS, because USPS always seems to screw up.

This I now know lol....the form I filled out there wanted both of our information and a package description as well, so are these the same? would they call me if they find the package?
If it were me - I'd definitely report it as stolen. Guaranteed that whoever didn't get it hasn't activated it because they're got an eBay auction for it that hasn't closed. Don't even tell me you sent to Pakistan or overseas - that would be too funny. I would not defraud lockline though.

I believe that to activate new "lockline" service you must make and receive a call to lockline from the phone you wish to have covered. I you previously had coverage and you may been able to claim it. But if you are trying to add it for the first time, you will probably be out of luck.

Actually if the phone was once active on the account you can call up to lockline and tell them when it was lost(the date you switched to the 7400) and they will replace it. You have to know the date though.

There's always the possibility that the person you sold the phone to is jerking your chain and actually did get the phone, but is claiming to have never received it. I'd definitely have Sprint keep an eye on that phone's ESN and flag it if someone happens to activate it.
Thanks For the replies everyone, i appreciate it. i've been paying for insurance about a year now so i should be covered. im gonna call lockline and try reporting it lost. that will kill two birds with one stone as nobody will be able to activate my phone. thanks again.

dont hold your breath with usps. i have had pkgs w/ tracking mysteriously get delivered to an address I had moved from, and they still did nothing , even w/ the # --- I filed thatsame form and provided the tracking info and they said "its lost, sorry" after I showed them proof I had moved a week before they claim they successfuly delivered it to me at that address ... use signature confirmation/insurance always when using usps.

Minimum requirement when using USPS.
Even better is to not use them.

*Another tread back from the dead* I use USPS because their vending machines for stamps are always screwed up. I buy 1 book of stamps, it gives me 5 or 6. It's like free shipping sometimes :-)
