I have 40 Of these sanyo models. The ESN were clear with sprint (we got the usual excuses upfront, but a scroll through the esn history and they agreed to activate) BUT.. when the get to the next screen to actually activate, the system won't let them. After a closer comparison, I notice that these phones have been "debranded" with new, non sprint faces, and instead of sprint logo, it's just "Sanyo, digital PCS" although a test call does go to sprint's "your account blah blah blah" I'm guessing they're unlocked, my associate feels the must be entered into sprints computer and it's out of our hands. I see people talking about MSL codes, but I don't even know how to get into menus on these things. I'm willing to pay well/make a generous donation to the board for expert assistance in getting these live for sprint (or any CDMA provider.) I can't imagine my supplier gave me useless phones..Thanks everyone, I'm technicly inclined but have googled my fingers off for the codes/answers and am at my wits end.

Call up Sprint and activate one of the phones on an account. If the esn is accepted they will give you an msl which will allow you to activate the phone with Sprint. If the esn is rejected then you are pretty much out of luck. Yes, the esn will have to be in Sprint's data base to activate the phone, they will unable to activate a non complient esn as their system will not be able to give the programming information for the phone.

Ahhh, but there is a way. If it were originally a Sprint phone, and the units had to be replaced by the manufacturer, sometimes the ESNs are not entered into Sprint's system. I work for RadioShack, and our inept service centers send us replacement phones from Nokia all the time whose ESNs do not show up as valid.

All you have to do is call the Sprint Trouble Department. They should be able to write a ticket for it and get it entered into the system. The number is 866-273-2163. If they can't get it into the system, they should be able to note your account and have a Sprint retail store enter the ESN.

If this works and you want to send me one of those 40 6200s as a token of your appreciation, I would love it. That is the best form factor ever made for a phone. I had a 6400 for a year until I sat on it. :(

My associate Brett (Jedi sprint user, best grandfathered 4 phone plan on earth, treo 300 and sony T 608) was able to get something to this effect out of the helpdesk.

Here is what we asked our buyers to do:

Call to activate, listen to the initial BS of "it's lost/stolen/etc" and then ask then to "check the entire ESN history and phone disposition" (page down!)
They then say "Oh, ok, yeah, it's right there, phone was a trade-in/14 day exchange/etc and account is clear" (only one out of 30 buyers reported a truely bad ESN with closed past due account, which would likely place it in the range of about 1 in 50 we usually see had we continued shipping them out)
They get to the actual activation screen and then report back "sorry, it won't let me for some reason it's not in the system" So, we were told at this point to ask them to be transferred to the helpdesk, who would then file a form (2 days to 2 weeks) on their behalf that would get it entered into the system.

Seemed like a solution and logical explanation...

A percentage of buyers understandibly wanted an immediate refund, not up to the hassle. The majority of buyers followed the instructions. They were all shocked to find that in fact they were systematicly mislead about the condition of the ESN, but, none we successful (many with 1-2 hours of red tape and on hold time) in getting the helpdesk to assist.

All of our customers love this phone. We picked it from the available units because it's a favorite design for us as well.

I would GLADLY compensate if that's the magic number to the people who have a clue above. I'd pick the shinest of the bunch. My SCP-6200 are MINT, and there's a huge list of my customers egerly awaiting an answer because they want to replace their worn units. Is there anyway for this process to be done in bulk (if it in fact is the soulution for these untis)? Can I do it a a reseller, or is it the duty of the customer and what barriers can they face in the process?

As far as the other post, the MSL would be great, and could be snagged with bitparm if needbe, but I can't seem to find any other specific info about how to wrangle the phone into working for a specific network. I've never delt with unlocked phones.

Thanks for any insight

Yes, that is the magic number above. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be done in bulk, but if you get someone who is really nice, then you may be able to get it done.

You really can't unlock CDMA phones. You can get the MSL, which would allow you to program MDNs and MSIDs, but it would not affect the PRL. If you don't change the PRL to a specific carrier, a phone will still look for it's original carriers towers. Just one of the little things GSM has over CDMA.

By the way, the people at the Sprint Trouble Department should be able to give you MDNs with those phones if you explain your situation.

Going to unleash brett on them again after the big mac expo is overwith.. he takes the day off for it.. So, I gather that I'd need the MSL to change the PRL to, say, verizon. THANK YOU for your assitance on this, I'll post an update tomorrow night, and I'll PM for your address to send one to.

If the esn's are not loaded into the data base they are not going to be able to give you information about the msl. The msl is different for each phone. Sprint can only give the msl out for active phones. If the phone is not active they can not tell you the msl.

Getting the MSL doesn't seem to be -too- difficult with the right cable, our MAJOR issue is having a bunch of sprint phones that sprint doesn't want to play nice with. Even with verizon--how does a person get them to recognize the ESN's without fussing over who's nameplate is on the phone.
