View Full Version : A Suggested Solution...

Hi all! Just wanted to suggest a "Phone Suggestions/Requests" section to be created to forward all the "Find Me a Phone" threads into one area. I already wrote to one of your respected mods here, and he was the one who encouraged me to post about that subject matter. Seriously, some people (the ones who won't use the search button and would rather be spoonfed by others) need to be a bit more resourceful in order to find their answers (usually answers that are already in front of them, just waiting to be read).
Opinions about this? Let me know... thanks!

I like the idea... or at least a sticky in the main forum so we don't have 50 side threads

A sticky in the main forum is a good idea, too. Or how about adding a list of "stickies" or FAQs (aside the ones dealing with the ins and outs of the Sprint PCS system) as a pop-up page after new users register?
If it's possible, maybe even creating an automated response to use the search button and/or forward user to an already existing "find me a phone" thread? This suggestion, however, only depends on whether the same question has already been asked by another person. Example...
User: Find me a phone!
Automated Response: Your inquiry matches an existing thread. Please click
here for your answer. If response is insufficient, please click on search
button before starting a new post. Thank you.
More thoughts are welcomed...
Ahh another chapter in the debate of how to organize the site. I like it. But as many have said we have so many categories already (yes, I have actually come full circle on that one). The only thing I can think of is to break down the categories in a completely different way. But that would require moving all the threads into new categories - can you imagine?

And to thicken the stew even more many threads are already started in the wrong places...lol
Yes, a very thick stew indeed. Perhaps we should just dump all the threads in one big steaming pile.

I understand your point. Despite a differently organized forum, some people--new and existing users alike--will continue to post the same thing over and over again... perhaps even write their inquiries in totally wrong sections.
I just wanted to suggest one thing to improve in order to encourage more resourcefulness on a user's part. A girl can dream, right??? :D
siren, i think it's a good idea, but i got a lot of "we don't want more forums" feedback after suggesting additional categories in the past. i would personally reorganize the entire forum, but that's one user compared to many who like it the way it is.

Ted, you never know, though, unless you try. When those repeat threads start dominating the forum, more and more people will start to complain and/or suggest ideas for improvement. It only takes one person to make a difference.
Personally, I really enjoy reading posts in this forum in general. Whether or not my idea goes through, I still feel proud that I "spoke" my mind.

I wasnt trying to make your suggestion seem like a bad idea...When I was a mod I made several suggestions on having a rant section for the "I want to switch" threads and several others...the objection was that a large percent of threads are posted in wrong section anyway....so it would be more work for the mods.

Point taken... I apologize for making it appear that you think of my idea as a bad one. It's just some constructive criticism I welcome, especially from respected users such as yourself, msrandall. Thanks for recognizing my suggestion as a valid one, though. I trust that SU will continue to deliver useful information for lots of people, especially SprintPCS customers (both the potential and existing ones) and employees. And if any changes will be made... it's pretty much up to the administrators of this place.
Personally I think the site should be categorized into the type of questions, such as...
1. Sprint Phones (discussion about a particular phone, phone comparisons, phone advice).
2. Sprint Services (Web, Text, Readylink, Downloads, etc).
3. Sprint Plans and Contracts (prices, retention, renewals)
4. Phone insurance and rebates (lock/line, ERP, MIR)
5. Coverage and roaming
6. Other (wireless store, trading post, watercooler, barroom, brothel)
I don't think any subforums would be needed as the categories all kinda go together anyway. This would be simple, 6 topics.

Not bad there, ted. I'm not sure what the admin thinks about this... but I'm rooting for ya on this one.

I like it too!
As I mentioned before, in another area, the General Forum area has turned into a "Phone Discussion Area!" More than 1/2 the threads in there on a given day are phone threads. Shouldn't some of those be moved to the Phone Discussion area? Moderators? :violin:
