View Full Version : New Year discounts on 8200...?

When I got my new plan recently, (December), the rep I was talking to at Sprint said for me to wait to upgrade my phone until the new year - that they usually discount phones to move them out for new models, etc.

I'm curious if anybody has observed this - I'm looking to upgrade by buying a Sanyo 8200, but I want to get it for less than the $99 on Sprint's website. (I can afford to wait for a better price, if necessary)

Any suggestions? When might I get a better price?

Become a member at Costco. I got both of my 8200's for 19.99 each after the discount. The guy there said that the rebates will be going down after the first of the year but even if they went up by $50.00, the phone itself is only around $199.99 then subtract the $150.00 rebate and you've paid 49.99 for the phone. Also you'll get NO activation fee (s) and the FREE accessories too!

Later,

Chris :)

What discounts did you have?? I have an 8200, and the external speaker (ringer) is getting quieter and quieter. I can barely hear the thing ring, now. The vibrate is actually louder than the ring. I need to replace it, but Sprint says it's $279. I don't have lockline, and the phone is "water damaged." The only water the phone has been exposed to is sweat in my pocket last summer, but I guess that was enough to turn the BS sticker pink. Funny thing is, the ringer was fine until about a month ago, when it started going away. This Costco deal sounds good to me, but I'm still under contract. What's your advice?

Don, not sure where you are from. Costco is a good deal as from sprint, you will pay $279.00 for the phone itself where as at Costco the amount is only $199.99. $80.00 saved, $45.00 to join on a basic membership = $35.00 still in your pocket. HOWEVER, not sure how Sprint is in activating. The rep at the warehouse should be able to explain the process. Is no activation fee (usually $36.00) then you are good, if there is a fee, you got a new phone AND membership to Costco for the entire year for basically for $1.00 more than buying the replacement from Sprint.

Man, you're fast. I hadn't even closed the window. How did you get your phones so cheap??? Special deal because you're out of contract, or were they on sale for Christmas or something? My mom works at Costco. I might get her to check into that. After the last few conversations with customer svc. I will never spend any money with Sprint if I can help it. I want the service, and that's it.

Momw orks at Costco? She should be aware of the "special" pricing then on the services. If not, ask her to find out. As far as the prices for the phones, that is the price everyday. Oh, did I mention the $180.00 rebate that it had, or still does, not sure. That makes it only $19.99 after the rebate. Not too shabby for the 8200. I bought 2 8200's and 2 7400's. Could not pass it up. Remeber, ask your mom. In fact, it may be beneficial to you to get on a family plan with her included as she is the employee................

Man, What is it with you people and Costco? lol That's all I hear!
There's only ONE in Houston, passed by it before. Never been in there.

We got Sam's Clubs up the wazoo, though! :hee: (I'm a member, too).

I'm jealous. I've never heard of Costco until this forum. I searched for the nearest location, and it's over 3 hours away! If there was one around, I think I would be the proud owner of a MM7400 right now.

Matt, Matt, Matt. Do yourself a favor and go to the Houston location of Costco. See for yourself what all the hype is about. Think of the SVAINGS you will incur if you only were a member. Heres an idea, see if Sams will refund your membership in full. This way you will make it easier to join Costco. Oh, wait, Sams WONT refund your membership. Costco would have........................

Believe me, it is worth the time and effort.

Keep hope alive. Ohio should be soon. All you Michigan people can now rejoice!!

Flip, when was the last time you checked into locations?

I'm in Columbus, and I believe the nearest two are along the north border of Ohio. Granted my hometown is in Cleveland and it would be a mere 45 minute drive, but I'm hardly ever there anyway.

Last time I checked was yesterday, haha.

It isn't too far from me (less than 20 miles), so I may just check it out! Sam's is still convienent (There's 2 of 'em within 6 or so miles of me).

Costco's philosophy: Don't sell it if it's not good. Hit it on the head with Sanyo, Samsung and Sprint.....................

Ok, so, somebody run in there and find out how much a PM8200 is. I'd rather get a Sam's membership, since there is one 5 minutes away. The nearest Costco is 30 minutes. I'd use the Sam's membership much more often. BTW, the Costco my mom works at is 400 miles away, so I can't just run down and see her at work.

Thanks.

Ok, sorry to hear that. Last I checked, the 8200 wa $199.99 with a $180.00 rebate. Not sure if anything has changed but...........$19.99 for the 8200? See if good ole Sams can touch that! No to mention, 30 minutes? Like driving to work but with more benefits....:)

Sounds good. Was that activated? Was the rebate instant or mail in? Did you have so sign another contract?

Sorry so many questions. Costco is a good ways away, and If I'm going to buy a membership, I think Sam's would be a better idea... much closer.

2 year contract. New account with mail in and it was activated as Costco charges no activation fees. Got the accessories for free too!

Later,

Chris :)wow this is really cheap, im a member @ costco's but i dont go there for the phones :D ... i was wondering is this only for new members or existing? cuz talking to someone from sprint told me that its recommended to buy the phone full price ($249) and give me $125 credit, they didnt mention anything about the rebates
(im an existing member btw) ..i guess i should go to costcos huh?

and tell me how things are different between costco and the actual sprint store.. cuz if i go there, do i just tell them that i wanna upgrade/replace my old phone to that? i dont really care if i get to stay for another 2 year contract, and i guess they have to check your credit again right?.. sorry i ask too many questions, cuz 8200 for $19.99?? thats too good to be true

That is for new customers I guess. But, you could always talk to the Sprint rep there to see what your options are........
