Sprint has said that they won't release the 6600 until a fix is released for the serious bugs that have been found on the 6601 (and 6600).

Hey, Bjork...

What's your source for that quote? Can you point me towards the press release?

Thanks,

- Ben

Confidential. Hobbes (and others) have been told the same thing. Looks like you'll have to wait.

If it's not an official source (ie. confidential), you should probably make that clear in your posts, rather than saying 'Sprint Says', which they haven't.

Just a thought,

- Ben

Just because I won't tell you my source doesn't mean that it's not official. How's your beep of death?

Actually, it does...

I notice that it IS official that the Treo doesn't support Wi-Fi, or the full BT, or have enough memory to keep all your contacts, or even have basic audio quality on the phone calls...

...oh yeah, but there are a bunch of 'hacks' that you can install. Are they official? Too bad...

My beep would be great if my keyboard hadn't fallen off while I typing and sliced my finger off and gave me herpes, Mad-Cow, and Gulf War Syndrome...

thats not my understanding after talking to people on campus today. and if you look at how phone/pda bugs have been handled in the past (ex. G1000), it should be clear that hardware bugs are never fixed, and software bugs are fixed months later at best.

I NEVER said any such thing!!!!!! Do not twist my posts to meet your needs.

I know you read my posts on this subject as you responded directly to them. Here is exactly what I did say:

Thread: SPRINT: PPC-6600 Available Jan 25th
( http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56465 )

On 12/28: I just got off the phone with Sprint to verify my order of the PPC-6600 that is going to replace my cracked screen on my 6601. They said that the phone will be available to order on Jan 25th...or by the end of the last week of Jan for sure.

We will see, but they did say it was confirmed.

On 1/11 ( post you responded to btw): I just talked with Sprint and they have confirmed that as of today the 6600 will be SHIPPING to the customers on Jan 25th.
They actually said that they will recieve the phones prior to this date, which is why I stated that the Jan 25th date is still holding for the date they are going to be shipping the 6600s to the customers.

My sources are a manager at business telesales, who spent quite a bit of time verifying the accuracy of the information. And a personal contact who is a National Sprint Sales Manager.

Again...Bjork..please do not speak in by behalf without quoting me honestly, both in letter and context.

this amazes me - doing my research on what to buy - everything i have read (except here) praises this little pda - hell - even the web site DEVOTED to those centered on treo - look at the exodus - i know there are lots of the treos out there and they have been around a long time - but wow - look at all the threads discussing the problems - and how many 'fs: slightly used 650' posts in the trading post forums - difficult to believe that the centrallized treo people did not jump calvin's case when he posted his review - not one - none - but here we hear about the 'BEEP OF DEATH' and about keyboards flying across the room and killing sweet little grandmothers - my decision is made - i want one of these little gems - even if i have to mug deval outside his store

i'll wait for the 6600 and use tough talk about ev-do support - but ordering the extras now - ordered the writeshields already - more research on the bt mouse and keyboard - then sd cards and a case - sold another one calvin

I have the Thinkoutside BT keyboard and BT Travel Mouse...and love them both. The keyboard can sometimes have a slight pause just after connecting, but in every aspect it works real nicely, accurate, and with a very fast responce time. It automatically pairs as soon as it is opened.

The Travel Mouse is really nice to use with it as well. I find myself using the travel mouse all the time while it is in the charger so I don't have to bother touching the screen or buttons while in the cradle. The only thing is I have connect it each time I turn the mouse on, a minor detail that I think will be addressed in the 660x BT ROM update.

Here is a thread I posted over at Treo Central with a long list of accessories that might help you:

Accessories for PPC-660x/SX66/VZ6600

I hope this helps.

excellent - i was reading on handango about the software list you had on the tc place - books - i am an avid reader - tons on new titles are available - i had no idea a little card could hold so much data - the links have sure helped that you provide in your posts too - i'll be watching (with many others) for your first impression of the 6600 - since i read it has to be charged 8 hours after arrival we will all expect you to notify us when the ups man arrives - you then have 10 hours to have your first post ;)

this should fit into my plan to control the planet nicely - it can be used as my a/v remote too - not sure how strong the i/r signal will be - but i have an i/r distribution unit that is very sensitive and propagates the signal - i added a small box that will take any i/r signal and transmit x10 commands - i have the sony universal remote but not happy with it - some of the nice remotes are like $600 or more - but some cheap software in a pda might be able to do the job - macro for bedtime: dim bedside lamps to 20%, turn off overhead, set temp to 68, turn on a/v units and play the dvd - i am gonna try it - then smarthome's smarthome live so i can view the security camers and control the house remotely - kicking george jetson's ass

i was reading about the gps hardware/software you use - amazing - i am the only man on the planet that will admit that he has NO sense of direction - and the bluetooth car adapter is too cool - i have enough to keep me confused so i will wait for you to test that

i was waiting on the sanyo mm5600 thinking it might be ev-do capable - not so - but for the money i would spend on that and maybe $150 more, i could have this - and control the planet

when i find the software/hardware that will cause peace to descend over the middle east i'll let you know
