If these are all EIDE devices, make sure that you don't have both devices on a single cable to be either master or slave. Should be one master and one slave per IDE channel. Or set both to cable select. Should be jumpers on each drive for setting that.

Sorry, thought you said it wasn't detecting any IDE devices any more, so I figured it was a master/slave issue on the IDE channels. Anyways, don't have any spares myself. If you can't find any used/free ones, you can check www.newegg.com for prices on new ones. They've got 40GB drives for about $50 and 80GB drives for about $60. Unless you absolutely want your shiny retail box, then add like $10-20. Might want to check prices at Frys Electronics, cost there with tax might even up with shipping costs.

I'm gonna have to agree with MrCoffee... sounds like a setup issue. Can your computer see it in the BIOS? If so, try re-partitioning and reformatting. If not, the drives are likely not set up correctly. Your hard drive should be set to MASTER and the other drive set to SLAVE. You usually do this with pins on the back of the drive, if you're unfamiliar. I've worked on computers for years and it is still easy to get the settings wrong.
Can you hear the drive spin up when you turn the computer on? Does the HD access light on your computer case blink at all? If either of these things happens, I'd bet it was a setup issue and not a bad drive. If you can see it in your BIOS (the setup you press F2, F12, etc. to get to when you first turn on your computer) then I'd be even more certain that it could be fixed with some setup changes.
If nothing else, put the CD drive back in and see if that solves your problem. Based on what you said above, I'm 99% certain your drive isn't bad your setup is. Getting a new drive would likely not fix the problem unless it just happened to come set correctly for the situation.
Good luck!

Thanks. But See, I Took An Old Hd I Had (worthless Cause Its Only 3 Gb) And Everything Worked Fine. All 3 Cd Drives Worked Actually. All Pins On Back Are Set Right, On The Cds And Dvd Drive. Hue Still Yet To Try The 80gb Hd On My Old Comp.

Yep, Frys is the way to go. They have the most amazing deals on hard drives sometimes. 160gb Maxtor hdd for $50, no mail-in rebates. 120gb Seagate hdd for $80 minus a $50 mail in rebate. I would check out this weeks ad for you but I don't have a paper with me.

No. In Not THAT dumb. Primary Cable Had Hd And Secondary Had Dvd And Cd Which I Wanted To Make Dvd And Burner Instead Of Cd. Since Both The Dvd And Burner Could Act As A Cd Drive, I Thought I Could Just Eliminate The Cd Drive.

helloo! finally, someone from my moms work let me borrow their 40 GB.. its good enough for me until i get my 80 gig back. and yes, obviously it was the HD. thanks for all the replies though.
1. You can hook up CDs and HDs on the same cable, you just have to make sure you pin out the Master/Slave configuration correctly and that the Master is on the connection on the END of the cable, and Slave is on the middle connection. With ATA cables rated about 66, you have to be sure that the BLUE end is attached to your MOBO.
2. Come to think of it - if your 3gb works and your 80gb doesn't, you might be using the wrong type of cable. Your drive is going to be rated for a high-speed cable. That 40gb might still be running ATA/33. Your 80gb is for sure on ATA/66. You'll know because the cable has more wires running through it than the cable you use for your CDs.
3. HDs don't typically stop communicating with the BIOS. If they don't spin, they still talk to the BIOS, but the BIOS can't detect it (it will hang). You made no indication that the BIOS was trying to detect the drive, and just skipped over it.
4. You very easily could have bent a pin somewhere.
5. WHY are you continuing to screw around with all of your CD and DVD drives when the HD is whats giving you difficulty?? I'll bet that guy can get the HD to spin up and be detected. Whenever you're having trouble like this, you need to isolate the problem. You should try to start the PC with ONLY the HD and a video card (and CPU and memory, duh) and see if it recognizes it.
I've never seen an HD just stop being detected. Especially after it let you reformat it as you say.

Just giving you some key things to look for. You weren't too clear in your post so I had to make assumptions. Good luck with the new drive.
