No, not unless you buy a new phone. It started in November 04. Sorry to hear that. I know the reps are not too keen on letting people know that.

Wow, I didn't know that either. Glad I have insurance on my phones already... Just to make sure, when I purchase a new phone... I don't have to call lockline again right ? I know in the past lockline was on your account no matter how many ESN swaps you did...

Well to cut down on fraud. Plus with the new TEP people that are kind to their phones only have to pay a 10 dollar deductable to get phones replaced. The people that break and damage their phones have to pay 50 dollars.

Effective October 1st...and there's no way around it...If you were a subscriber to insurance before that date you were notified of the changes via mail. Stop by any local Sprint store or any other Sprint retailer and pick up the Total Equipment Protection brochure...it'll notify you as well. The changes were made to cut down on fraud...a few bad apples spoil the bunch.
It was more than a few bad apples, heh. Before the rule change, the primary function of lock/line's insurance program was to be added to people's account when they broke or lost their phones so they could make a claim after 21 days.
Personally, I feel lock/line's insurance program is hardly cost effective, but it's a smart idea on most of Sprint's high end phones, as they have ridiculous retail costs.

Insurance is insurance. You hate paying for it when you never use it, you hate not having it when something breaks.

the only time sprint or cust. solutions can add insurance with no test call is at the point of activation, if you walk out of the store and come back 5 minutes later, then you have to call lockline and have a successful test call completed because who is to say something didn't happen the minute you walked out that door. And the reason the 30 day thing came into effect is because to many people were helping other people get the insurance added w/o the test call 6 months later after the screen was cracked and they found out they would have to pay full price for a new phone.

I called Lockline 2 weeks ago and had insurance added to my 8200 that I purchased in June of 04. They made the test call and added the insurance. The only stipulation was that if I was going to make a claim I'd have to wait 20 days from the date of the test call. I don't know how I slipped through the cracks but it might be worth a try as long as your phone is able to take the test call.

Occasionally they will let you slide, but for the most part, its 30days on a new phone or else.

Mobile Protech (www.mobileprotech.com) lets you add insurance to your phone or PDA at any time (phone has to be undamaged and they do the test call too).

u forgot to add:
when u been paying for insurance for 5 years straight and u finally make a claim the insurance company finds a loop whole and doesn't want 2 reimburse u. so your SOL, and they get even richer
insurance= the biggest legal scam in the world
Another "thread from the dead" and hopefully this one will go back there. Wont lockline allow you to add the insurance if you do an esn swap? dont matter if its a new or old phone as long as its in working order, test call, etc?
seems thats been peoples way around it on here.
anyone have experience with mobile protech yet?

That is why RADIO SHACK is not selling the lockline insurance any more. It is a scam that produces close to $200m in revenue for Sprint. I also learned that Lockline is only a "fronting company" the real insurance administrator is Sprint and use Lockline to wash their hands.

I think they bundled a fake waranty plan and charge extra for that. I say fake, because the manufacturer of the phone gives a one year waranty so sprint does not have any risks and should not charge for it. Besides, try to get your phone repaired under guarantee... it is like pulling teeth. Conclusion, lockline just charges you more because they are thiefs. Every mayor retailer is cancelling their offerings and wait until Elliot Spitzer (NY attorney general) and/or 20/20 get to investigate them... We are all getting money back from the class-action suit for sure... As you can tell, I was so upset with them that I did a lot of research

I have 4 high end phones. Lockline has saved by wallet many times.
If you lose break or damage your phone, you get a replacement for $50. Considering my alternative eas to pay $600 each time....I consider the $50...and the fact I got a brand new treo vs a refurb...a bargain.

ERP (Equipment Replacement Program) = $4/mo
TEP (Total Equipment Protection) = $5/mo
ERP + EWP (Enhanced Warranty Program) = TEP
ERP (Insures your Sprint PCS Phone or Device against loss, theft or damage.)
EWP (Guard against device failures.)

I added mine just yesterday. The 30th day. Whew!

all insurance is optional. If you generally take care of your phone and wish to upgrade every year or 2 anyways you surely dont need insurance. Just deal with the chance you may have to re-activate an old phone if something happens to the one you have now.
every sprint store is diffrent. some tech's will err on the side of the customer, some are strictly by the book and some wouldnt give a damm if your phone was full of errors made in manufacturing.
as far as the "new" mobile insurance companies that sem to be all over the boards.......... I would rather over pay a company that we all know isnt going anywhere (lock/line) then buy from a company that will most likely be gone in 12 months unless they have some serious bonding behind them. mobile protech may very well be the answer to the gripes with lock/line, but if they cant handle the claims their customers will make, they will end up out of business. I guess a safe option is to try one of them and see how it goes before dumping lock/line.
off topic...... Deval, did you know my spell checker keeps wanting to change your name to devil? wonder if it knows something?
:bang: people who complain that lockline didnt upgrade em or worry about such minor changes that they expect a "better" phone than the one they lost, etc. Some have legit gripes, but it seems lockline has become the sprint phone upgrade program for too many!

Well, my 2 cents w/ insurance. You pay $5 bucks a month, in a year including taxes from your bill you will pay around 69 dollars, at least. PLUS, if you use the insurance it a $50 dollars deductible. Now youve paid 119 for a new (refurb) phone. Correct me if Im wrong but dont we get $75 discount on a new phone every year now? So if you have a phone that retails for less than $200, the insurance is definitly not worth it. Pro and cons, but not worth it. Plus technology changes so in a year things get better.
In regards w/ the Radio Shack and selling insurance. We can't sell PCS nor anybodys insurance because we dont have an insurance licence, and because it just prevents soooo many issues.
I think I gave a little more than 2 cents. :o)

Link to all this please? I googled but found nothign of what you mentioned. The only suit I found against lock/line was in the value of $5mil, but it was dispersed to customers in calling cards. This was done in 2004.
