I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just switched out my 4900 for a 4050...
Things I like so far: "no guidance" idle screen. Full-screen screensavers. That you can make it quiet when it goes into/out of sprint service area (couldn't on the 4900, which beeped incessantly sometimes at my apartment... btw, I'm happy to report reception appears no worse than my 4900 at my apartment so far). Plus the obvious, screen, camera, screen, screen, screen...
Things I don't like: If you want it to speak the name of who is calling, you have to do it with 'voice guidance' and press a button to hear it, it's not just part of the ringer? That's annoying, that was one of my favorite features of the 4900, knowing who is calling before taking the phone out of my bag. I actually asked about this in a thread on here... didn't get a complete answer, someone just said "it does all that and then some." Well, it doesn't. Also I liked speed dial better on the 4900, where it showed the name of who you were calling, and pressing left/right switched between home/work/etc.
So I started typing in phone book numbers and did about 5 and discovered I really didn't want to do it any more... if I take it to a sprint store and they transfer them, will it also transfer bookmarks to the browser? Will it erase the customization/pix/etc that I've already set up on the phone? Might be worth it... Too bad this thing doesn't work with bitpim or isync.
One problem: when I go to mapquest via the link on sprintusers wap site, there seems to be a redraw error in the browser? It keeps drawing new stuff without deleting the old, ie, when you scroll or click a link? Do I have an old version of the browser? I have browser version 6.2.2.4.e.1.100 and software version 132.037 and hardware version 99.03.01.01. I tried restarting the phone, but had the same problem after the restart. Didn't find anything similar from searching on here.
Also, accuweather.com/pda's radar images don't show up? They show only as tiny blue squares? This worked fine on my 4900... it's annoying since mapquest and accuweather would probably have been the two sites I'd be most likely to use.
Although I have a lot of nitpicks I really do like the phone... I think you don't realize how strong your attachment is to your old gadgets until you have to give them up and relearn new ones...
