The PSP or playstation portable was released in Japan today. (December 13, 2004) and is on sell on Ebay for about $610 dollars.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62054&item=8154199122&rd=1 SO... I was wondering what everyone thought of it over the DS. (Nintendo) I also heard that in stores it sold for 188 dollars. Amazing isnt it.

I find the DS very cool. I've only played the metroid demo on it but already it's actually easier than the GC version. The touchscreen working as pseudo-button(s) is genius. I only wish I could afford one for myself.

The PSP should be awesome too if they re-release some of the better PSX titles for it.

PSX is just a PS2 with a harddrive, TV tuner, and other media related items. Any game that plays on the PS2 plays in the PSX. There are no special games made for it.

I think darkmojo was referring to the PS1 when he said PSX.

ps1 is also sometimes called psx.

psp will be able to play mp4 vids and mp3's. the only hard thing is using the UMD's. but the psp will rock the ds, just because of GT4!!!

Well I will just remind you now. Once you see the PSP and its graphics, theres always Ebay for that DS. I have tons of videos of it on my computer so. Im in love with it. But not enough to buy a 600 dollar one of Ebay and not have full compatablility in the states.

dang...what is the projected price for the psp

looks like whoever wins that on ebay is getting ripped...especially because it is not compatible with US games

I have a nintendo ds and I'm quite impressed with the graphics on it especially with the game Asphalt Urban GT. But I have to admit the Sony PsP graphics are amazing and from what I've seen in videos and heard they are the same or better than the Ps2's graphics, especially with NFS Underground Rivals and GTA PSP. The Downfall is the battery life and charging time. I think its cool that it uses its own disks that hold more than a gig, and you can watch movies but only for 2 1/2 hours till the battery dies out. Im not sure if I would spend $200 or $50 a game when I could use that on an Xbox game or any other console game, but I probably still get one anyway.

Supposed to be "under $200", which means more like its going to cost $199. which is fine anyway, because the PSP will blow the DS away, even if Nintendo pretty much has the portable market cornered.

PS - this has already been discussed in the Watercooler.

The 2.5hr battery life is a rumor. Sony claims 4-5 hours off of one charge. People at the CES were running into low battery life because they didn't properly charge it. There are reviews that state that they were able to get about 4.5 hrs off of one charge.

2.5 hrs is still pretty good, especially since you don't have to replace the batteries. Too bad they don't have an option to turn off the backlight to conserve energy.
