Well, I bought the phone off Ebay and it has the latest software. However when I go in to program the handset there is no option for the msid (WLNP, blah blah). So, I read someone else was able to get it activated by ota programming, I'm assuming a prl update, but that did not work either. The store I took it to says I'm SOL. Am I really or are there any other options?

basically you need to call customer care from a landline, and have them push activation over the air. its either that or call from the phone itself and see if they can activate it that way.
You should be able to activate it w/ no problem. Call customer service from a landline or *2 from another sprint phone. They'll walk you through it.
(the in store reps most likely dont know what they're doing. If you go to a store, ask the tech to program it for you. Any knowledgeable tech can hook it up for you)

Well he walked me through the programming of the phone and we got the mdn programmed in, but there is no option for the msid. What do you mean program over the Air? Is this a prl update?

Before, you can actually call on the handset which you want to activate, and they can program it through the network. I believe that is the only way to program it.

is that an older phone? if so you really may be SOL cuz the older models dont have the option to manually program in MSID and MDN, they automatically listed them as the same. so if this is your situation, then basically you cant activate the phone unless your phone number happens to be the exact same as the MSID. its not a PRL update, PRL is "preferred roaming list," and you'd only need to do that if you had trouble roaming, but you are correct it is done over the air. hope that helps.
edit - just searched it on ebay...the timeport. heh, a classic.

Yea, I guess that's what the problem is. Well, it's going back up for sale. If my mdn and msid matched that would do the trick. Too bad, it's a neat little phone and cool IMO, hehe. Maybe someone else will be more successful.

Might not want to sell it yet. I have heard other people on the forum within the year having trouble getting the Timeports activated, but they did so eventually.
When I worked at AT&T Wireless we would just put the MSID in the MDN spot if the phone was too old to support both (many Nokia's were like that). Not sure if it will work for Sprint, but you might give it a try if you can't find another route. I really think there is a solution to this problem out there. You might want to search a bit more on the forum and other similar sites if SprintPCS tech support isn't able to help.

You, my friend are a pure genious that did the trick. I actually work for Sprint Tech Support/Trbl Management and no one knew this one. The only downside to this is calling my voicemail, it calls my msid and not my mdn. I will just program one of my speed dials with the 11(phone number).
Woohoo!
Thanks again, Macaddict

Hey, glad it worked! Guess all cell phones are pretty similar after all... let us know if the Timeport is still as good as others say it is!
