i believe that it's about time that sprint and aol develop an application similar to the one yahoo has already launched. I NEED MY AIM, MAN!!! the wap version is pure garbage. Every other huge carrier has it's version of aim that actually works in a brisk manner, i think sprint should too! i mean, *** is the g**d*** hold up, here?

Many carriers have it built into the phone's software like text messaging finally is. Its just like using the old vision sms compared to the newer phone based system... phone based is MUCH better.

Also, there are some programs out there for download however I have yet to find a good and free one.

It truly is rediculous that Sprint doesn't have a program that runs AIM natively on the phone yet. Even the small mom & pop wireless companies have them and they're so much faster, especially when you're talking to more than one person.

I tried the J2ME program that lets you log in to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. (10 day trial here - http://www.airsoftwireless.com/home.asp) and even it was so much faster than using the stupid WAP site and it's privately developed. Sprint could definitely get a program like this if enough people put the squeeze on them.

I really hope a native client is available when my contract comes back up for renewal.

i would absolutley LOVE this, but the thing is, sprint would definatley make us pay for the service, not just the sms (which i get unlim neways though). so i wouldnt be to keen on it. unless it was free, like the cingular ones. i saw aim built into the Nokia 3200 for cingualr and t-mo, and i was like i want this for sprint! and i sqw it didnt have aim so i got a different better phone lol.

I'd love it too. I see myself getting by with the WAP version and a Sanyo so I can leave the browser running while the phone is closed.

its ok, but the 5500 browser is sorta slow. so it still kind of sucks.

RustyGrom

The browser on my 4900 is sooooo slow. It makes using AIM pretty much pointless and unbareable.

After a little searching I came across this AIM/MSN/Yahoo/etc program for Sprint:

http://www.tipic.com/tipicme

It is free to download and use but I haven't been able to get it to log in [In/Our Error on my A600]. Does anyone else use this service or know any more about it?

(To install, you'll have to download it to your computer, then use an uploader that supports .jar files [such as http://www.rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php since Focus doesn't handle .jar files] to send it to your phone. You then have to sign up for a TIPIC account and log into that using your phone. A bit complicated, but it seems to be just what I want if it would let me log in!)

I've never been able to get it to work. I've come close but no cigar :(

edit:: Actually no Samsung at all.

Here's my request, on all other carriers that have had SMS for awhile, when someone sends an IM to their phone from AIM, like to +1xxxxxxxxxx they can just hit reply and answer back and it will IM the person back. Granted thats not like having to initiate IMs to names, but thats built in two way to AIM if you get IMed first. According to AIM, thats still one way only on Sprint, even though we now have SMS on some phones. Yes I have tried to reply via SMS, doesnt reach the other person like my friend can on AT&T(well what was AT&T)

Just grab the J2ME version - it's standard and should work on most Sprint PCS Vision phones.

Again, you'll have to download the file from that site, then send the .jar to your phone using the link in my other post. It worked on my A600, I just can't get logged in!

Yup, instead of having an AIM application on the phone itself, your suggestion can be a lot easier. I recommend many of you who use AOL to go to keyword: SUGGESTIONS and just suggest it.Once a lot of people suggest it AOL sends an email to beta testers saying its one of the most suggested things for AOL to be better.

Yeah, stuck at 80%... This is so ridiculous, you would think its a fairly easy app to make considering all the other apps they have out. Wish I was in the matrix right now and just have knowledge uploaded into my brain so I could just make it!

I was able to log on, and sign in and everything. I am using the LG PM325, but thing is this program does not do Aim. Well it sort of does. What I think its for is corp. IM using their own network (like intranet and stuff like that) but they also give you the functionallity of being able to log on to aim. When you "add" a aim gateway your aim name will appear. (it appeared on my brothers buddy list) but you don't get your own buddy list ( or at least i haven't been able to figure out how) you have to add people you wanna talk to individually. I was able to talk to my brother when i added him as a contact. So therefore, unless i'm totally missing something, this program doesn't seem to be very practical.

I found that using Aimair http://www.airsoftwireless.com/home.asp was kinda good though. it worked well, the only two things that bothered me was that imput method would always revert back to "abc" everytime i send a new message. and also when you are on the app, you can't receive calls everything goes to voicemail.

MSN works good with that, but AOL I get a "Unknown Error". might invest in this. if I get it to work.

There is a downloadable Yahoo! program that you can use which is like $2.99/monthly, but I think it is still free if you just connect through the WAP link (so it would be about the same experience as using AIM).

I downloaded and tried the AirIM today. IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM.. I have a nokia 6225. Aims are sent and received the way they're suppose to. I'm not sure about chatting with more than one person at a time, but one on ones and grea. I haven't tried the other 3 apps (msn, yahoo, icq etc) but aim works fine. 25 bucks a year isn't bad at all. I think the only draw back is that you can't make calls when the program is on. Hmm. gotta consider this.

So does TiPic work good or not? Is AirIM better? I used to use AirIM a long time ago before we had AIM on out cell and it was free. But I would love for AIM to be 2 way like the SMS... I just send text messages to my friends e-mails and then they reply back if I am out and need to tell them something. They don't use text messaging on there phone so we text back and forth with me using my phone to there e-mail and them replying back to my phone # @messaging.sprinpcs.com. That's the easiest for me then going on vision signing on to AIM and then having to go to the URL of the text message to get the replies... What is Upoc? I just went to the web and under IM Messaging there is something I've never noticed before. Rose

This is my theory. I think that GPRS can send and receive data while still receive calls (with limitations: you can't browse web while you are talking on the phone) where as CDMA can't. GSM carriers offer built-in AIM applications on almost all of their phones, you can remain online at all times and view your BL without going through the wireless web and you can send IM's while you are in a call. CDMA can't (atleast I think) which is why we don't have phones like this and the ones that do support the downloadable applications require that you are logged into vision while exchanging messages, and viewing the BL therefore forwarding all incoming calls to VM when data is being exchanged. The other thing is that AIM on GSM/GPRS/EDGE phones works in the background at all times where the AIM app. for Sprint does not (correct me if i'm wrong). I really hope that this can be changed once EV-DO is released. I am not familiar how IM Clients work on Verizon so if anyone does please let me know. If Verizon supports IM functionality similar to the way it works on GSM carriers then it can also be done by Sprint and they are simply not offering it. I am guessing that Verizon's AIM works through BREW which puts it in the same category as Sprints and Vision. The only thing that I use as an alternative is www.imforwards.com I can't view my BL but atleast I can reply to people when the IM is forwarded to my phone. Till Sprint gets their act together and works on something like the GSM carriers I am using this or upgrading to a PDA phone or Smartphone in the near future.

AIM Sucks on Vision because it only saves last 4-5? Messages the person has sent =\ then it refreshes and all gone.

does anyone know about the aim applet from sprint?
id only get it if it allows my buddylist to have more then 30 buddys

KraziKandiBoi
04-23-2005, 05:33 PM
There's an AIM app for Spring phones. It does only allow 30 buddies though. :D It's a cool program -- especially if you have a flip phone that wont close out a program when you close it.

You just have to go to Vision Home > Downloads > Messaging and it should be there.

I went there and it says there upgrading there service so I couldn't get there. Rose

KraziKandiBoi

Sprint is always trying to upgrade crap lol. :D

Well, yeah it's a $2.99/mo charge for it. If you frequent mobile AIM I'd say it's worth it. Especially if you get the $5 vision credit ;)

Rose4uKY
04-24-2005, 08:49 AM
Well I don't do AIM alot but I would like to try it for one month. I have AIM & Yahoo on my home computers and ICQ which I don't use alot not many people have. Most of my friends have AOL. But I just looked and it's 104kb and I don't have that much space left even to try it... I have unlimited text messaging so if I need to send a message I just send it to there e-mail and they reply and I get replied back right to my phone and can reply back to them all with out getting on vision so I guess that's good enough...
