Anyone else been having poor sms service. I mean one to three hours to receive is quite bad. Sending out they receive it pretty quick. Fyi. Sending to another carrier

Yes I have had delays here and there but it mostly to other providers. PCS to PCS has very rarely been an issue.

The problem you are having may not be with Sprint but with the other person's carrier. Sprint may have sent the message just as you wanted but then the other carrier then has to receive the message and here is where I am guessing may have to convert it to their service so that person's phone receives the message. Then again it could be sprint's issue to that they first need to convert the message before sending it out. The reason I say this is because each carrier uses different formats and platforms. I realized this when because when you send a pic to someone on another carrier they don't receive it because you are not on the same system. So that is where a site like Pix to Pix.com comes in where they translate the data for you and send it to the appropriate carrier, so then you pic does get through.

well, sometimes the txt will get through within 10secs of me delivering it. so why does it take longer at other times. .like around midnight and such. ..

Update. Sending via pixtopix went thru when sending direct was *delayed*. So if the other party sends thru pixtopix it should get there quick. ..other carrier in test was t-mobile.

How many other folks are trying to use the same gateway (sending carrier or receiving
carrier) at the same time you are?

(Exactly the same as any e-mail ISP.)

actually sms doesn’t need to be converted. it does need to be re-routed thought through the other carrier's gateway. while all carriers do have their own methods for sending pictures (which is what makes pixtopix a necessity, but there will be a migration to MMS for picture sharing within the next couple years) SMS is a independent standard that most all carries use these days. in the past there were "home-grown" methods (which Sprint’s Shortmail used to be), but true sms now just needs to be redirected, no conversion anymore.
But it is possible that the relaying is the delay, there could be some routing issues on either carrier’s side. It could also be that if there’s a surgance of SMS being funneled into one particular carrier’s gateway, that could be the delay. Anyone notice if its with only certain carriers (ATT, Verizon, etc)?
